Job Purpose

The Certification Engineer has an integral role in the cross-functional team and is responsible for facilitating and coordinating activities to support FAA certification and foreign validation programs, and resolving certification and validation issues within the company and with the civil aviation authorities. This is a primary position for overseeing the completeness and accuracy of compliance as defined in the certification plans as well as adherence to the certification procedures and related agreements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate meetings and other communication within the company and with regulatory authorities in support of certification projects.
  • Provides input to and reviews certification plans to support TC and amended TC projects.
  • Review certification deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with certification and validation agreements and procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and complete compliance checklists in accordance with the accepted certification plans.
  • Develop and track TIA pre-requisites checklists.
  • Research FAA and foreign regulatory differences.
  • Develop and improve company procedures for meeting FAA and foreign civil aviation authority requirements.
  • Research, document, and communicate FAA and foreign airworthiness and operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete certification project files.
  • Participate in the company process to support changes in type design.
  • Provide guidance and advice on certification approach/strategy to the Engineering team.


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • 2 to 5 years previous experience in FAA certification is required
  • Previous experience with aircraft engineering processes and procedures is required.
  • Experience with FAA and foreign regulatory processes, procedures, and documentation is required. Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 21 and foreign validation procedures. Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 25 regulations.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, professionalism, sound judgement, and a cooperative attitude. Experience with SharePoint, TeamCenter, and SAP is desired.


Decisions Expected

  • Evaluate proposed compliance approach and provide guidance and feedback to the Engineering team.
  • Support comment responses to the FAA and CAA authorities and verify that the comments or questions are answered.


Working Conditions

  • Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  • Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  • Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided "reach assistance technology" or "movement assist technology"
  • (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
