The Role

This classification is engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.

Position Summary / Responsibilities

Researches, develops, designs, and tests components, equipment and systems.

Designs equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Leveling Factors: Knowledge, Skills and Ability Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of all disciplines.

Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.

Problem Solving Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Discretion/Latitude Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results. Impact Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

Liaison.

Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.

Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Must Have

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 5 years of experience

Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 3 years of experience

-or

PHD in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 1 year of experience

Nice to Have

Knowledgeable of understanding Foundations and O&F designs.

- Knowledgeable of understanding HVAC and pipe designs.

- Ability to travel to a different state for up to three months at a time as needed

- Provide technical liaison between the Planning Yard, Naval Supervising Activity (NSA), and Program Management Representative (PMR).

- Provide interpretation of design products and assistance in resolving technical problems.

- Support the local NSA and PMR during availability work periods with modernization and repair assistance. - Provide assistance in response to Condition Found Reports.

- Represent the Planning Yard at daily and weekly production reviews. Working knowledge of planning yard processes.

- Experience with ship modernization, availability, process and procedure.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.

- Engineering experience and knowledge of systems for CG47, LCS, LPD17, LHA and LHD ship classes preferred.

- Prior experience in support of waterfront production efforts.
