DISTRICT 02--UNIT 170
DOTD is seeking an experienced Engineer to support transportation projects and programs through roadway design, project development, plan preparation, geometric design, engineering estimates, and technical support for transportation improvement projects. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.

No prior licensed engineering experience is required - training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.

Positions are located in New Orleans and report to the Engineer 6.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

NOTE:

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
  • Performs or assists with roadway design and project development activities.
  • Prepares, reviews, or edits roadway plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Supports geometric design, plan development, design studies, or transportation improvement projects.
  • Coordinates with project teams, consultants, districts, utility representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Reviews project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with DOTD standards and procedures.
  • Uses engineering software and design tools to support project development.
  • Provides technical assistance related to roadway design, project delivery, or plan review.
  • Supports emergency or disaster response activities as needed.


Position-Specific Details:
Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as Engineer 3, 4, or 5 based on qualifications and agency needs.

Compensation: These positions qualify for a Special Entrance Rate (SER).
Engineer 3 - $3,083.20 bi-weekly
Engineer 4 - $ 3,529.60 bi-weekly
Engineer 5 - $ 3,776.80 bi-weekly

Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment (temporary appointment in a classified position for a limit of four years); or by detail to special duty.
