Job DescriptionThe Louisville, Kentucky site of BAE Systems, provider of some of the world's most advanced, technology-led defense, aerospace and security solutions, is actively seeking an Laser Tracker Inspector.
This position will support the First Shift on a 9/80 Schedule with typical hours 6:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
This role is responsible for developing quality plans, quality assurance procedures, performing layout work on applicable measurement equipment using Faro, Leica or similar laser inspection equipment and offline programming using Spatial Analyzer software.
The Laser Tracker Inspector:
- Reads and interprets customer drawings and specifications and identifies appropriate inspection methods.
- Interprets geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
- Performs first piece, last piece, and in-process inspection checks.
- Evaluates nonconforming material to determine final disposition.
- Provides support to Manufacturing Engineering and other business units.
- Direct the work of less senior personnel.
- Uses laser tracker to align components to machine coordinates.
- Determines best fit for weldments to optimize machine stock.
- Supports when needed on off-shifts and/or via overtime.
- Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
- This role requires regular presence in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. The incumbent must be able to access and safely navigate production areas which may include climbing, kneeling, stooping, and working in confined spaces. Must also be able to comply with all requirements including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy.
Required Skills and Education- High School diploma (or GED) and 8+ years related work experience or equivalent education and experience
- Experience with AnsiY14.5 GD&T
- Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
- Computer literacy required to be able to prepare appropriate reports and documents
- Experience reading and working with blueprints
- Experience with portable Metrology Inspection and Alignment
- Understanding of and the ability to use shop math
- Ability to support overtime and/or the off-shift team when needed
- Able to get clearance level for program support
- Ability to work alone and with a cross functioning team
- Effective communication skills both verbal and in writing to convey information
Preferred Skills and Education- Experience performing inspection and alignment with Laser Trackers, especially Leica
- Portable Metrology experience using Spatial Analyzer or equivalent software
