This role would be responsible for the architecture, administration, security, migration, and sustainment of enterprise Windows-based server environments and cloud-based storage solutions that support mission-critical shared data and file services. Designs, implements, and maintains secure, scalable, and highly available data hosting solutions across hybrid and cloud environments, with a primary focus on AWS and Azure technologies.
Collaborates with cloud engineers, cybersecurity teams, network engineers, and program leadership to support enterprise shared-data modernization initiatives, including the transition from legacy on-premises infrastructure to modern cloud-based platforms. Assists with data migration efforts, decommissioning of existing on-premises storage environments, and the design and accreditation of new cloud-hosted shared data solutions that meet operational, performance, and compliance requirements.
We are seeking an experienced Windows/Cloud Engineer to join our technology-focused program supporting enterprise computing modernization initiatives. This role is responsible for assisting organizations with transitioning shared data from legacy infrastructure to approved alternate storage locations or architecting new cloud-based hosting solutions when alternate enterprise storage options are not available.
As a mission-focused infrastructure engineer, you will independently identify and resolve complex infrastructure and data-hosting issues; assess system health, performance, and risk; and determine root causes across Windows, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud environments. The role requires hands-on expertise managing enterprise Windows Server environments, shared file services, cloud storage technologies, and hybrid infrastructure solutions. You will evaluate and recommend technical solutions, execute modernization improvements, collaborate across teams, and capture lessons learned to improve enterprise operations, resilience, and long-term sustainability.
Required Skills and EducationWe are looking for a Windows/Cloud Engineer with the following skills and education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field; with minimum 16+ years of relevant experience.
- Significant experience designing, administering, and supporting enterprise file services and shared data environments in Windows-based infrastructures, including disk and volume management and integration with SAN and iSCSI-based storage platforms.
- Experience planning and executing migrations from on-premises file storage solutions to cloud-based or enterprise-approved alternate storage platforms.
- Experience supporting infrastructure decommissioning activities associated with legacy storage and file service environments.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud-hosted storage and shared data solutions using AWS and Azure services in hybrid enterprise environments.
- Experience assisting with security accreditation, compliance, and authorization activities for cloud-hosted infrastructure and storage solutions.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues (Tier 3/Tier 4 equivalent).
- Hands-on experience writing and maintaining PowerShell and C# automation for system administration, configuration management, and operational workflows.
- In-depth knowledge of Windows security and access controls, including data protection, backup and recovery strategies, and compliance best practices.
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Windows Server Failover Clusters.
- Experience with cloud file and storage services such as Azure Files, Azure Storage, AWS FSx, Amazon S3, and related hybrid storage technologies.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud deployments and enterprise shared-data hosting solutions.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Service Desk, IT Operations, Cloud Engineering, and Security teams.
- Experience with Splunk or similar monitoring and log analytics platforms for system health and performance monitoring.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-tempo operational environments.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and enterprise solutions.
- Experience writing enterprise-level technical standards, operational documentation, migration plans, and architectural diagrams.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly with users, peers, engineering teams, and leadership.
Preferred Skills and Education- Advanced proficiency with PowerShell for automation and administration.
- Experience architecting cloud-native or hybrid storage solutions in AWS and Azure environments.
- Understanding of enterprise networking best practices as they relate to Windows infrastructure and cloud-hosted storage environments.
- Familiarity with DFS management and failover concepts, including DFS Namespaces and DFS Replication.
- Familiarity with cloud governance, security frameworks, and accreditation processes in regulated enterprise environments.
