Job DescriptionBAE Systems is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support at its site in York, PA. In this role as an Environmental Engineer, reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will provide guidance to the York, PA operations, maintenance, facilities and support teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements, and to drive continuous improvement in environmental management systems and sustainability.
Position duties, in coordination with the Environmental Manager:
- Coordinate and engage with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE), Operations, Facilities, Engineering and other personnel in the identification, development and implementation of safety health and environmental goals which will positively impact and add value to the organization.
- Actively track performance and report on status of identified goals and objectives.
- Monitor developing environmental federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk initiatives; analyze potential impacts on site operations; provide operations and management with information as appropriate.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs to ensure that environmental regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner.
- Support pollution prevention and waste minimization programs through periodic monitoring, routine compliance inspections, and internal audits.
- Analyze and maintain detailed calculations and records of pollutant concentrations in air, water, waste and/or soil samples.
- Coordinate and monitor Solid Waste such as Hazardous, Universal and Residual waste handling and disposal: including manifesting, packaging and labeling. Schedule waste pickups with appropriate vendors as needed.
- Monitor and record environmental parameters such as types and quantity of waste created, fuel use, raw material use, water used, emissions created, etc.
- Assist in the completion of environmental permit applications as needed due to plant changes or modifications.
- Assist in the development and upkeep of technical instruction documents and policies regarding environmental compliance.
- Participate as necessary in responses to environmental incidents including spills and releases; lead and/or support completion of environmental incident investigations, root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
- Be an active member of the onsite Emergency Response Team.
- Communicate critical environmental compliance information to management and facility personnel.
- With the assistance of others, prepare for and accompany regulatory officials for on-site inspections.
- Develop and provide environmental training and direction to site personnel as needed.
- Maintain professional training/certifications as needed such ash those associated with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
Required Skills and Education• Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field, and four years of related experience, or the overall equivalent.
• Knowledge of monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting for: Clean Air Act (Title V Permitting), Superfund Amendments Reauthorization Act (SARA) Tier II and 313, Spill Prevention Control Countermeasure Planning, Preparedness Prevention and Contingency Planning, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits/Stormwater, Hazardous/Residual Waste Biennial Reports, Groundwater Remediation, Resource Conservation and Recovery, U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to negotiate, collaborate, and foster relationships with regulators / auditors.
• Experience balancing and managing multiple projects and changing priorities.
• Organization skills to efficiently manage data and records for compliance.
Preferred Skills and Education- Proficiency manipulating and analyzing data in multiple sources and formats.
- Project management skills and experience.
- Formal environmental compliance training certification including: wastewater, solid waste, and air permitting.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
