Job DescriptionThis position is for an experienced system engineer who can work in, and grow to lead, a multi-disciplinary team to develop, maintain, verify and communicate the architecture and requirements baseline for a mission that includes Segment, Element (payload, spacecraft bus, and ground) and/or Subsystems. You will work within your program teams alongside a team of specialty engineers through the program life cycle to develop, and manage requirements for, different specifications for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.
What You'll Do:- Be part of a team of mission systems analysts that work collaboratively, using and developing a custom-built tool-suite, to characterize the mission performance of complex systems architectures.
- Work in and lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop, maintain, verify and communicate the requirements baseline for a mission that includes Segment, Element (payload, spacecraft bus, and ground) and/or Subsystems.
- Develop new tools and algorithms for mission systems modeling and data analysis.
- As a team member, contribute to completion of milestones within specific projects and provide solutions to a variety of technical problems.
- Giving presentations to peers, management, and customers will be required.
- Responsibilities may include new business support in the form of proposal writing and/or cost/schedule estimation.
- Provide systems engineering leadership of technical teams in the development, verification, delivery, and operations of Missions, Segments, Elements, and Subsystems.
- Support the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels through the lifecycle of the program.
- Interact with multiple subject matter experts to develop the required allocation analysis and verification artifacts.
- Interface with and support the program's lead system engineer, chief engineer and customer.
- Support expectations, preparations, and delivery for major gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR).
- Coordinate requirements verification with I&T activities.
- Coordinate with and assist other engineering disciplines as assigned.
- Coordinate with and assist other engineering disciplines and IPTs as assigned.
- Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for architecture to requirements traceability and interface development.
- Mentor other system engineers assigned to the team.
- Support the program Risk & Opportunity Management and ERB processes.
- Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Skills and Education- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Polygraph.
- Experience with space systems and orbital dynamics.
- Analytic modeling capabilities.
- Experience using requirements database tools (DOORS, Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler, e.g.).
- Experience with MBSE: Cameo Enterprise Architecture, SysML and DoDAF/UAF/UPDM.
- Demonstrated ability to review effective and verifiable requirements - detail oriented.
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation - a self-starter that will own this activity.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating across multi-disciplinary teams to meet schedule and performance goals.
- Customer Relationships: knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.
- Excellent presentation skills with experience to senior decision making and technical audiences.

Preferred Skills and Education- A working understanding of signal processing concepts and basic physics across the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Related experience in either mission systems, spacecraft systems, ground systems or payloads preferred.
