Job Description

Basic Purpose
Provides comprehensive civil/structural engineering design services for substation and/or transmission facilities, and to ensure that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable transmission and substation civil/structural designs with moderate supervision and guidance.

Provides Civil Engineering expertise to develop plans for grading, foundation, landscaping, off-site improvements, fencing and block walls, substation steel structures and technical drainage studies. Provides complex engineering analysis, route analysis, and calculations for line design, (e.g. structures, foundations, and conductor sag).

Acquires all necessary grading, building and construction permits for assigned projects.

Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.

Provides coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments.

Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned.

Monitors project expenditures, and practice cost control such that project commitments are met.

Evaluates bids for materials and labor according to engineering specifications, thereby ensuring that the Company will acquire the most cost-effective products and services.

Provides assistance and guidance to other departments and districts in the solution of non-standard or complex civil/structural design problems.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering and 2-4 years of related experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Excellent organization and communication skills. Ability to understand basic project management.

Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.
