Senior Energy & Sustainability Manager

Role Purpose

The Energy & Sustainability Manager will serve on multiple on a single client assignment, leading the development and execution of comprehensive energy management and decarbonization programs. The Energy & Sustainability Manager will report to the Sustainable Operations Director and will oversee the development and execution of energy management programs in order to delivery on client KPI's including energy savings, carbon footprint reduction, and utility cost optimization.

What this job involves

Key responsibilities include:

1. Project Identification, Feasibility & Technical Delivery
  • Conduct facility energy audits and technical reviews to identify high-impact energy conservation measures (ECMs) and facility improvement retrofits
  • Evaluate technical viability, risk profiles, lifecycle costs (LCCA), and ROI for proposed facility projects
  • Draft comprehensive technical project scopes for capital retrofits and operational improvements
  • Implement Measurement & Verification (M&V) frameworks to validate long-term equipment performance, quantify post-implementation energy and demand savings, and report performance against contractual savings guarantees
  • Identify, apply for, and secure external utility rebates and government decarbonization grants to reduce net capital project payback periods


2. Utility Data Governance, Auditing & GHG Reporting
  • Manage the energy data collection process within JLL's technology platform and produce monthly and quarterly reports tailored to meet clients' specific requirements
  • Continuously analyze site electrical and gas consumption patterns to establish performance baselines and spot operational anomalies
  • Audit utility bills to identify rate structure optimization opportunities, demand charge reductions, and billing errors
  • Prepare standard energy consumption and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission reports to support corporate sustainability disclosure requirements
  • Provide data support, verification, and technical documentation for external utility compliance and regulatory audits
  • Support corporate reporting objectives and provide management information relating to the use of utilities and their environmental impact


3. Site Operations & Facility Manager Engagement
  • Partner directly with local Site Facility Managers to conduct operational reviews, assess equipment schedules, and review Building Automation System (BAS) operation sequences
  • Recommend continuous improvement strategies that reduce energy intensity without compromising facility comfort, safety, or critical lab/production environment requirements
  • Act as the subject matter expert to educate and guide key stakeholders on energy and sustainability topics and requests


4. Program Strategy & Decarbonization Roadmap
  • Develop decarbonization roadmaps and strategic planning to achieve client carbon reduction goals, translating targets into phased, actionable capital retrofits and energy conservation measures
  • Drive operational improvements through identification and implementation of opportunities to improve energy and sustainability performance across extensive portfolios
  • Develop and enhance systems and processes for delivering best practice sustainability performance


5. Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborate with other JLL energy managers to share best practices, develop case studies, and develop new business opportunities
  • Provide technical training and/or mentor more junior colleagues
  • Lead the technical support team to solve complex problems, plan and prioritize deadlines, and think strategically to identify innovative solutions

Requirements - Essential
  • University Degree (Science, engineering, math, or related fields)
  • Specialized technical understanding of the most common HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems and their impact on sustainability goals
  • Advanced understanding of energy conservation measures
  • Strong ability to analyze corporate portfolio by benchmarking and reviewing utility data to drive sustainability measures
  • Advanced understanding of Greenhouse Gas Emission scopes and reporting
  • Familiarity with energy procurement process and renewable energy options
  • Ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view
  • Lead the technical support team to solve complex problems, plan and prioritize deadlines and think strategically to identify innovative solutions


Requirements - Desirable
  • Experienced conducting site walkthroughs in order to find conservation measures (e.g. ASHRAE Level 1 and 2)
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a high pressure, deadline driven environment
  • Experience conducting technical and feasibility reviews including lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) and ROI evaluation
  • Experience implementing Measurement & Verification (M&V) frameworks and performance tracking systems
  • Knowledge of utility rebate programs and government decarbonization grant opportunities
  • Experience in the preparation of tenders and work orders and the ability to select appropriate equipment and service vendors
  • Specialized knowledge of environmental reporting, utility management and energy budgets, an environmental improvement program, and ISO 14001 compliance.
  • Experience working with multifunctional team in order to drive results
  • Manage small teams of energy & sustainability professionals

Estimated compensation for this position:

100,000.00 - 120,000.00 USD per year
