Full Job Description
Job Purpose:

Reporting to theDirector Environmental Management Operations, the Energy Manager will build and maintain functional and collaborative relationships within IO and across all external stakeholders (ministries, project & program teams, service providers) providing technical guidance, contract management, business & financial acumen, and oversight towards implementing energy & sustainability initiatives as well as tracking performance results. This role will interact with senior management, business units across IO, and technical teams to implement and oversee energy and sustainability initiatives in alignment with IO's strategic priorities.

What You Will Do:
  • Be the technical lead for enterprise-wide Energy & Sustainability projects and programs, supporting internal and external clients to manage enterprise climate risk and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify Energy performance related risks based on program specific needs and provide technical direction to progress Energy objectives and to mitigate risks.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Environmental Management team to deliver on client objectives, influence process optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and update technical recommendations and guidelines to be applied across the enterprise.
  • Monitor and interpret Energy & Sustainability industry trends and recommend initiatives to maintain alignment with industry best practices.
  • Advise new construction stakeholders on energy and implementation in the area of operational cost optimization on government investments in real estate.
  • Responsible for overseeing the validation of energy performance against asset management contractual obligations.
  • Responsible for the review of submitted energy designs for new builds. Advise and guide Ministries on efficiency requirements and international best practices for energy management in various building types (e.g., office buildings, hospitals, etc.).
  • Assemble, interpret, advise and present continuous improvement measures to internal IO stakeholders processes, design, and contract improvement.
  • Working with new construction stakeholders and service providers to identify capital projects/programs by validating data, reviewing financial models, and returns on investments/paybacks.
  • Provide technical support and oversight of commissioning, building equipment and innovative technologies.


Who You Are:
  • Post-Secondary degree in a related field (environmental studies, engineering, climate science, planning) ideally with minimum 8 years of experience with and/or knowledge of Energy Management & Sustainability. Knowledge of LEED would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of asset management, including building envelope, mechanical, electrical, and other building systems as related to energy management and sustainability.
  • Knowledge of building codes/standards and provincial ministry policies (on Energy and Climate Resilience).
  • New construction experience related to overseeing or energy, sustainability requirements considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with project and quality management principals, standards, and best practices.
  • Familiarity or working knowledge of energy modeling programs like eQuest, EnergyPlus, and EE4 considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Office, and PowerPoint with the ability to manage large data sets while maintaining their completeness and accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and relationship building/collaboration skills with the ability to influence and present at all levels.

We offer a competitive hiring range of $115,100 to $140,700 (P5 level), pay will align with skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
