The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the Endowed Chair in Radiation Oncology. Job Duties

50-60% Research

• Develop an independent, nationally recognized research program.
• Lead interdisciplinary research initiatives involving veterinary medicine, human medicine, engineering, physics, and data sciences.
• Secure extramural funding from federal agencies, foundations, and industry.
• Build collaborative infrastructure supporting translational and comparative oncology research.
• Advance innovative technologies that improve cancer diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.

20-30% Clinical Service

• Provide advanced radiation oncology services within the Veterinary Medical Center.
• Advance clinical innovation through technology adoption and evaluation.
• Develop and participate in clinical research and clinical trials.

15-25% Teaching and Mentorship

• Participate in professional and graduate education programs.
• Mentor residents, graduate students, and junior faculty.
• Support development of future leaders in oncology and translational science.

Work Schedule: Position will be full-time, Monday- Friday, typically day time hours

Appt Term: 12 month

Work Environment: Work will be completed on the St. Paul Campus at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. In-person work is required for the clinical component of the position at the Veterinary Medical Center, largely during traditional Monday - Friday daytime hours. Didactic teaching is also done in person, though research and other aspects of the role may warrant flexibility for hybrid work.

Qualifications

Required

• DVM, VMD, MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree.
• Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in a tenure-track position at the University of Minnesota.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications.
• Evidence of an independent research program with potential for or demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding.
• Evidence of successful extramural funding from federal agencies, foundations, industry, or other external sources.
• Demonstrated excellence in radiation oncology clinical practice.
• Commitment to teaching and mentoring veterinary students, residents, graduate students, and/or postdoctoral scholars.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Minnesota.

Preferred

• National or international recognition in radiation oncology, comparative oncology, radiation biology, medical physics, or related disciplines.
• Board certification (or eligibility for certification) in Radiation Oncology (ACVR-Radiation Oncology or equivalent).

About the Department

The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.

Teaching
Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.

Research
Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs such as the Animal Cancer Care and Research program, Minnesota Urolith Center, and Surgical Research Laboratory. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.

Service and Outreach
Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offers consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Associate Professor: $170,000-$200,000 annually, depending on education/qualifications/experience. Full Professor: $180,000-$210,000 annually, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
