What You'll Do

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the Employee Relations Advisor serves as a consultant to leaders across Niagara Parks on employee and labour relations matters and disability management.

The Advisor assists stakeholders with the application of collective agreements, human resources policies, disability management processes, and employment legislation while working within established procedures and guidelines.

The Employee Relations Advisorwill:
  • Provide day-to-day support to managers and employees regarding the interpretation and application of collective agreement provisions, human resources policies, and established workplace practices, referring complex matters to Human Resources leadership.
  • Assist with the administration of grievances by gathering information, preparing documentation, coordinating meetings, maintaining records, and monitoring timelines.
  • Participate in grievance meetings and labour-management discussions and prepares supporting documentation for review by the Senior Manager, Human Resources.
  • Participate and assist with workplace investigations by information gathering, documentation, and preparation of investigation materials under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Human Resources.
  • Administers occupational and non-occupational disability management programs, including intake, case management, medical documentation review, accommodation coordination, and return-to-work planning in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Human Resources and Coordinator, Employee Relations.
  • Coordinates and monitors accommodation plans and graduated return-to-work programs in consultation with employees, managers, union representatives, healthcare practitioners, and external service providers as required.
  • Reviews medical information to identify functional abilities and restrictions, seeking clarification where necessary to ensure appropriate accommodation and return-to-work planning.
  • Maintains regular communication with employees on disability-related leaves to support recovery, facilitate workplace reintegration, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and legislative obligations.
  • Supports the administration of WSIB claims, including claim reporting, claim monitoring, work transition planning, appeals support, and communication with WSIB and applicable stakeholders.
  • Provide support and administrative coordination related to the application of collective agreements, disability management programs, and employment policies, seeking guidance from the Senior Manager, Human Resources on complex matters.
  • Assist managers in preparing disciplinary documentation, performance improvement plans, attendance management correspondence, and employee communications.
  • Respond to employee concerns and workplace complaints, facilitating early issue resolution whenever possible.
  • Participate in labour-management committee meetings and supports the resolution of issues arising from the administration and interpretation of collective agreements.
  • Maintains detailed files, documentation, and reporting related to disability, accommodation, attendance, and return-to-work activities.
  • Tracks disability management metrics and trends and provides reports and recommendations to Human Resources leadership.
  • Support the Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Manager, Human Resources in collective bargaining preparation.
  • Participate in labour-management discussions to support positive working relationships.
  • Participate and maintain job evaluation systems.

What You'll Bring

  • Completion of post-secondary education specializing in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related field.
  • CHRP designation required; CHRL and/or Disability Management certification considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years progressive experience in labour and employee relations and disability management in a unionized environment.
  • Experience managing occupational and non-occupational disability claims, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work programs. Experience conducting workplace investigations and grievance administration.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, investigation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple employee relations, labour relations, and disability management files.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with managers, employees, and union representatives.
  • Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Duty to Accommodate obligations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems, including reporting and data analysis.
