Full Job Description
Position Summary:

The Employee Health/Occupational Health Nurse under the direction the Employee Health and IC Manager will monitor, promote and influence employee/occupational safety and ensure a robust surveillance program is in place. Surveillance will include disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee's illnesses and injuries; facilitating employee health screenings; and promoting a safe work environment. The function of this position will require participation and nursing expertise in systems established to promote employee environmental safety and health to prevent occupational injuries. The Employee Health/Occupational Nurse will work in collaboration with the Safety and Workers Compensation Manager and provide nursing expertise within the Infection Control Committee in the form of licensed nursing input to the ongoing surveillance and prevention of infections related to employee clinical environments.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Implements processes for the program and care coordination of employee related illnesses and injuries in conjunction with the Safety Manager.
  • Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases.
  • collaborates with Human Resources to provide timely reporting of completed employee health screenings.
  • Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources.
  • Coordinates follow-up testing for all employees with work-related TB exposure
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of annual employee Flu Vaccination Program.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of other vaccine programs for employees as required by federal, state and other regulatory agencies.
  • Performs content review of annual TB and bloodborne pathogen training to employees and makes recommendations for changes to the training based on current medical guidelines.
  • Provides basic education on an as needed basis regarding hand washing and isolation practices
  • Strives to be proactive by assessing risk reduction in all areas of influence and accountability
  • Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety.
  • Assists with the accident and investigation program to identify root causes of incidents and near misses.
  • Participates as needed in the Infection Control Committee, Safety Manager, and Risk Management to trend employee illnesses and injuries and to identify safety, risk, and potential health issues.
  • Collaborates with outside resources for program development, such as healthcare providers, third-party administrators, legal advisors, medical director regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to Employee Health/Occupational Health.
  • Maintains (compilation of data entry) surveillance tracking software program up-to-date and in compliance with the organization's policies.
  • Provides concise data and tracking for all exposures.
  • Performs other related duties incident to the work described herein.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains and updates established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality program, and infection control standards.
  • Keeps abreast of all regulations and standards to ensure compliance with orders or directives issued by duly constituted government/regulatory agencies.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed


Job Requirements

Experience Required:
  • Familiar with occupational health, Infection Control program
  • Strong registered nursing experience working with multi-site ambulatory clinic settings

Education Required:
