Job Description

Overview

This role partners with the VP of People & Engagement to deliver Employee Value Proposition (EVP), Employee Experience (EX), and Employee Engagement initiatives while providing hands-on HR business partnership to unionized manufacturing operations.

The role leads onboarding and employee recognition programs, advances employee engagement, supports employee and labour relations, and partners with the Senior HR Business Partner (SHRBP) on complex or escalated matters. The Business Partner also owns HR metrics and reporting, using data and employee feedback to strengthen engagement, retention, leadership effectiveness, and operational outcomes.

This role is based on-site at our Mississauga location and will require travel to the Brantford site.

What will you do?

Employee Experience, Engagement & EVP
  • Partner closely with the VP of People & Engagement to advance and embed the organization's Employee Value Proposition across the employee lifecycle.
  • Lead and manage Employee Experience initiatives at the site and business-unit level, ensuring alignment with operational realities and organizational priorities.
  • Own and manage the Employee Recognition & VOE Program, including program administration, communication, execution, and continuous improvement to reinforce desired behaviours and organizational values.
  • Monitor participation and effectiveness of recognition initiatives using employee feedback and HR metrics; recommend enhancements as required.
  • Lead and continuously improve end-to-end onboarding programs to ensure a consistent, engaging, and compliant new hire experience across all sites.
  • Ensure onboarding programs effectively integrate safety, operational readiness, culture, leadership expectations, and EVP messaging, with a strong focus on frontline manufacturing employees.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Health & Safety, and operational leaders to ensure seamless onboarding from offer acceptance through probationary review.
  • Advance employee engagement by leading and supporting engagement initiatives, including surveys, listening sessions, focus groups, and site-level action planning.
  • Act as a change agent, supporting leaders through people-related initiatives that impact culture, engagement, employee experience, and leadership effectiveness


Business Partner - Operations and Employee Relations
  • Serve as the primary HR partner supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations, advising leaders on the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), HR policies, and labour relations matters.
  • Provide hands-on support for employee relations issues including attendance management, investigations, discipline, terminations, and Step 1 grievances.
  • Partner with the Senior HR Business Partner on escalations and complex cases to ensure consistent, risk-aligned practices.
  • Coach and support leaders in performance management, leadership capability development, engagement, and change management.
  • Promote positive labour relations and collaborate with Operations and Joint Health & Safety Committees to reinforce a safe, respectful workplace culture.


Talent, HR Operations & Analytics
  • Support recruitment efforts, including job postings, interviews, and offer coordination; provide surge support during peak hiring.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to inform retention strategies.
  • Support payroll, benefits, and pension administration; act as backup for bi-weekly payroll processing (ADP) as required.
  • Manage HR reporting and analytics, including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, and workforce trends; provide insights to senior leadership.
  • Maintain accurate employee lifecycle documentation and HR data integrity across systems.

  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with responsibility across employee relations, engagement, onboarding, and HR program delivery
  • Demonstrated operational HR experience with a focus on union and non-union environments, recruitment, payroll, employee engagement, compliance, compensation, training and development, and HR/payroll infrastructure.
  • Post-secondary or equivalent degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience (CHRP preferred).
  • Confident self-starter and motivated 'do-er'.
  • Experience working within a positive, customer-focused, high-energy, continuous improvement, collaborative working environment.
  • Working knowledge of HR - related legislation, (i.e., Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA); Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Ontario Labour Relations Act (OLRA) etc.)
  • Planning, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work under stress and manage time and resources effectively - leading multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relationship management skills throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Compensation, Benefits, HR reporting (metrics and analytics), Pension and Payroll administration knowledge.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and HRIS/payroll systems, including ADP Workforce Now (WFN) Time & Attendance and Payroll.


Asset
  • Experience in plastic food packaging.
  • Union Manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in advancing employee engagement in union and non-union hourly employees.
