Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:

At General Motors, we are developing the embedded software and control systems that enable advanced vehicle performance, drivability, and system integration. We are seeking a Senior Advanced Emission System Software Engineer to support Advanced Technical Work (ATW) projects in the Internal Combustion Engine domain, ensuring future ICE vehicles meet regulatory requirements and customer expectations in rapidly changing environment.

In this role, you will lead project execution across a cross-functional team developing software and controls for new technology, ensuring that systems meet performance expectations. You will support ATW projects through all gates and ensure the technology will be successful when implemented on production programs.

This role is well suited for an engineer who combines strong ICE control fundamentals with cross-functional coordination, clear communication, and a disciplined approach to execution in a technically complex development environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead/support a team to execute Advanced Technical Work (ATW) projects
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project requirements and deliverables
  • Support the development of control methods and controller software code
  • Develop calibrations for ATW projects to prove capability of system to meet project goals
  • Verify control methods/software on SIL/HIL test bench, engine start cart, or development vehicles
  • Perform emission testing on engine start cart, engine dynamometer, or vehicle to demonstrate system performance meets project requirements


Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or software engineering
  • 2+ years in propulsion system controls, software, or calibration
  • Knowledge in the internal combustion engine control domain: startability, open and closed loop fuel control, emission reduction and aftertreatment methods
  • Proficient with vehicle interface and data analysis tools such as INCA, Indicom, Concerto, and Vehicle Spy
  • Strong programming skills
  • Passion for innovation
  • Capable of working autonomously with limited direction from leadership
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink
  • Ability to effectively communicate with leadership/decision makers


What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in electrical, mechanical or software engineering
  • 5+ years of tailpipe emissions calibration
  • Experience in C coding for embedded software
  • Experience with embedded software development tools (Git/Gerrit)
  • Understanding rapid prototyping platforms: ETAS, d-SPACE
  • An understanding of Global B/VIP/SDV electrical architecture
  • Experience successfully leading large ambiguous projects
  • Familiarity with simulation tools: GT Power Suite, Amesim, GMSIM
