Job Description

Emerson is seeking a skilled and versatile Software Engineer to help build next-generation web experiences for Fisher's digital valve controllers and connected industrial devices. Working at the intersection of web development and embedded systems, you will design and implement responsive, efficient, and secure web applications that enable customers to configure, monitor, diagnose, and optimize critical process control equipment. This role will focus primarily on developing diagnostic and monitoring capabilities that help users understand device health, identify issues, and improve operational performance.

You will collaborate with software, firmware, hardware, and product engineering teams to develop innovative solutions for Emerson's Fisher product portfolio, a global leader in final control and process automation technologies. You will contribute to products known throughout the industry for their performance, reliability, and technical excellence.

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL:
  • Develop modern web-based user interfaces for Fisher digital valve controllers and connected industrial devices, including device configuration, diagnostics, monitoring dashboards, and remote management capabilities.
  • Collaborate with firmware and hardware engineers to design interfaces that interact seamlessly with low-level systems.
  • Optimize web apps for performance, especially within constrained environments (limited memory, low bandwidth, etc.).
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs, WebSocket interfaces, and other communication mechanisms used by connected embedded devices.
  • Ensure robust security practices in both the front-end and communication layers.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while participating in peer code reviews.
  • Contribute to testing, documentation, and deployment workflows for both web and embedded environments.

WHO YOU ARE: You enjoy solving problems that span software, networking, and hardware systems. You are curious about how things work beneath the user interface and are motivated by building products that combine modern web technologies with embedded devices. You collaborate effectively across disciplines, communicate technical concepts clearly, and take ownership of delivering high-quality solutions from concept through deployment.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a similar discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with C/C++ in embedded contexts.
  • Experience developing applications for or integrating with embedded systems, RTOS, or Linux-based firmware environments.
  • Experience working with microcontrollers, SoCs, or IoT platforms.
  • Understanding of networking protocols (HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, etc.).
  • Proficient in back-end technologies like Node.js or Python.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and develop solutions across multiple layers of the system, from user interfaces to device communication.
  • Experience applying modern software development practices, including automated testing, version control (Git), build automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
    • Individuals with temporary visas such as E, F-1 (including those with OPT or CPT), H-1, H-2, L-1, B, J or TN, or who need sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, are not eligible for hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
  • Experience developing front-end web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Vue.
  • Experience developing headless or embedded device user interfaces.
  • Experience with serverless or cloud-native architectures.
  • Knowledge of web UI optimization for low-performance environments.
  • Experience collaborating with UX/UI designers using tools such as Figma.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices for connected devices.
  • Experience with industrial automation, control systems, or Industrial IoT technologies.
