JOB SUMMARY Specialty Systems, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Lab Manager with the below described skills and experience to join our team of technical professionals supporting our Department of Defense customer at the Joint Base MDL-Lakehurst. In this position, you will have a high profile role within the software test team supporting the development and on-going in-service engineering support of unique Department of Defense systems. You will be working on the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system, two of the Navy's next generation mission critical systems for carrier aviation operations. Ideal candidates will have a broad set of technical skills and must be able to work both individually and within a team environment. As a member of our team, you will be able to experience the professional satisfaction of playing a key role in ensuring that our Department of Defense customer's systems that have a direct impact on our country's war-fighting and peace-keeping capabilities are performing at optimal levels. This position is located at our customer site location at Joint Base MDL-Lakehurst. In this position, you will work one of our customer's Compressed Work Schedules:
- Working four 9 hour days (M-Th) and an 8 hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9 hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3 day weekend every other week!
- Working 10 hour days (M-Th) every week. This results in a 3-day weekend every week!
Responsibilities- Coordinate with the Cyber Security branch and the RDT&E branch for all Information Assurance and Certification & Accreditation compliance requirements necessary to sustain the EMALS/AAG lab operations.
- Oversee the installation of new lab equipment and software with the EMALS/AAG hardware and software teams.
- Oversee the configuration of lab assets and software for specific test events with the EMALS/AAG hardware and software teams.
- Oversee the creation of custom lab test units for EMALS/AAG testing, including breadboard, PCB, and basic electronics equipment, with the EMALS/AAG hardware/software teams.
- Perform configuration management for all lab configuration documents.
- Coordinate the scheduling of the lab usage with the EMALS/AAG leads, inclusive of test events.
- Manage and track all lab assets, including Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA) processing, receiving and shipping of lab assets.
- Prepare the EMALS/AAG lab for tours and conduct tours as requested.
- Coordinate procurement, receiving, inventory tracking, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment and software.
- Establish and maintain lab access control in conjunction with the EMALS/AAG branch heads and Security department.
- Establish and maintain lock and key control program and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) program for required equipment and storage
- Educate and enforce all SSA lab guidelines, standard operating procedures, working instructions and configuration documentation.
- Conduct and document periodic laboratory safety and security audits; track and resolve corrective actions.
- Coordinate technical activities, equipment support, and collaboration efforts with SSA commercial partners and vendors.
- Coordinate with onsite facilities team to resolve any issues or conflicts related to building conditions
Qualification Requirements:Education, Certifications and Years of Experience: - A BS degree in an Engineering discipline. Directly relevant work experience may be accepted as a substitution for the degree requirement.
- 5 or more years of experience managing a lab or technical team.
- Must have an active clearance at the Secret level with the ability to obtain a clear Single Scope Background Investigation. If no active clearance, must be able to obtain an interim secret level clearance within approximately 4 weeks of submittal of clearance application.
Technical: - Extensive experience with complex, integrated systems involving both hardware and software.
- Solid knowledge of IT hardware and software technologies, including various operating systems, hardware devices, system testing/evaluation related software tools, and cybersecurity practices.
- Strong systems engineering foundation knowledge.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
- Knowledgeable in computer system architecture and system level debugging.
- Knowledgeable with best testing practices in complex systems.
- Solid background and knowledge in maintaining tab equipment.
