Position Summary

The Email Marketing Director serves as the senior subject matter expert responsible for setting and advancing JA USA's organization-wide email marketing strategy and strengthening email as an integrated audience engagement and conversion channel. This role leads the strategy, development, and continuous improvement of large-scale email initiatives, establishing scalable approaches to audience segmentation, personalization, lifecycle engagement, campaign planning and execution, measurement, and optimization.

Working independently and through cross-functional partnership and influence, the Email Marketing Director translates broader marketing and audience objectives into effective email strategies, standards, tools, and processes that improve campaign performance, audience relevance, and operational efficiency. The role establishes consistent practices for governance, data quality, brand alignment, compliance, testing, reporting, and measurement while leveraging automation, repeatable workflows, and performance insights to strengthen execution and inform future marketing priorities.

As an organization-wide resource and advisor, the Email Marketing Director partners with stakeholders to solve complex email marketing challenges, provide actionable recommendations, and build email marketing capability across the organization. The role also equips and supports JA associates across the country with the guidance, resources, and best practices needed to execute high-quality campaigns consistently and effectively.

Essential Functions

Email Marketing Strategy & Campaign Leadership
  • Develop and recommend the email marketing strategy, roadmap, and performance goals, aligning audience strategy, campaign priorities, cadence, and channel integration with department and broader marketing objectives
  • Manage complex end-to-end email programs from concept through delivery and analysis, including campaign architecture, content strategy, scheduling, segmentation, personalization, testing, deployment, and optimization
  • Develop and maintain department standards for compelling email copy, visual presentation, calls to action, responsive templates, brand voice, accessibility, and consistent user experience across devices and browsers

Audience Strategy, Measurement & Performance
  • Develop advanced audience segmentation and lifecycle strategies using demographics, preferences, engagement, and behavior to improve relevance and strengthen subscriber relationships
  • Design and manage a disciplined experimentation program, including A/B and multivariate testing, to improve content, timing, frequency, targeting, conversion, and campaign effectiveness
  • Develop the email measurement framework and translate deliverability, open rate, click-through rate, conversion, and ROI data into strategic recommendations, investment priorities, and process improvements

Governance, Optimization & Innovation
  • Oversee email database quality, list governance, opt-in practices, deliverability, sender reputation, and compliance with applicable data protection and email marketing requirements, including GDPR and CAN-SPAM
  • Evaluate industry trends, platform capabilities, automation opportunities, and emerging practices, recommending innovations and scalable process improvements that strengthen efficiency, personalization, execution, and audience outcomes

Cross-Functional & Network Leadership
  • Coordinate cross-functional planning with marketing, design, content, analytics, technology, and other stakeholders to integrate email efforts with broader initiatives and resolve high-impact execution issues
  • Provide expert guidance, tools, standards, and consultation to JA associates across the country to improve campaign quality, consistency, adoption, and measurable results

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience
  • 4 to 6 years of progressively responsible experience in email marketing, marketing automation, digital marketing, or a related discipline, including leadership of complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience developing email marketing strategy, managing large-scale campaign portfolios, improving marketing processes, and using performance data to influence strategy, priorities, and investment
  • Deep understanding of email marketing strategy and best practices, including audience segmentation, lifecycle marketing, personalization, deliverability, database hygiene, sender reputation, experimentation, and performance measurement
  • Strong proficiency with email marketing and marketing automation platforms such as Dynamics 365, HubSpot, Constant Contact, or comparable tools, including CRM integration and campaign reporting
  • Experience interpreting campaign and web analytics and translating performance data into actionable strategic recommendations and opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Experience advising stakeholders and enabling distributed teams or partners to execute email campaigns effectively within shared standards, processes, and expectations
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, CAN-SPAM, opt-in practices, and other data protection and compliance requirements relevant to email marketing
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for email template customization, responsive design, quality assurance, and troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, copywriting, editing, stakeholder management, and cross-functional influence skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, optimize processes, establish priorities, and execute effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications
  • Relevant certification in email marketing, marketing automation, analytics, or a related discipline
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), including CRM integration, dynamic content, sophisticated personalization, and advanced automation
  • Experience with Google Analytics, digital advertising platforms, and integrated campaign measurement
  • Experience providing marketing technology consultation, user enablement, training, and technical support to platform administrators

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $77,000 to $100,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on relevant experience, demonstrated impact, and alignment with the scope and responsibilities of the role.
