Position: Assistant Principal, Dolbeare Elementary School

Summary:

Wakefield Public Schools seeks a highly qualfied Elementary Assistant Principal to join our dedicated team of educators committed to creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive environment at the Dolbeare School.

The Assistant Principal plans, organizes, and implements curricular and administrative functions for the school. These functions may include curriculum and program leadership, staff development, family communication, scheduling, main offce management, school discipline and safety, student transportation, and facilities oversight.

The Assistant Principal must possess a strong background in early literacy and numeracy with experience as an effective instructional leader.

The Principal oversees the daily operations of the school and provides long-term visioning to ensure student-centered, effective, and effcient practices. Working closely with and reporting directly to the Principal, the Assistant Principal assists the Principal in implementing policies and directives promoting the success of all students and accountability in all practices. The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the Leadership Team and provides leadership in directing initiatives of the district. The Assistant Principal serves as the building leader in the absence of the Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities [other duties may be assigned]
  • Assist the Principal in administration of the school and day-to-day management and operations; serve as Principal in the Principal's absence
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, acting as primary evaluator of assigned faculty members and completing all steps and requirements of the evaluation process
  • Alongside the principal and curriculum coordinators, lead teachers to implement effective instructional practice and Multi-tiered Systems of support; keep abreast of educational reform and evidence-based best practices in order to serve as an instructional leader
  • Supervise conduct of students and oversee disciplinary procedures; keep accurate records of disciplinary actions
  • Act as a resource to faculty and students
  • Coordinate the administration of school attendance policies and staff time sheets
  • Manage and prepare the school schedule, staff duty assignments, and the calendar of school activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents and families; attend meetings of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) on a bi-monthly basis or as required
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent


Quali?cations
  • Education: Master's Degree in Education or related field
  • Five years teaching experience
  • Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal license (grades specific)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and families
  • Strong organization and excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of state and national standards, and understanding of research-based best practices


Work Year: 195 days

Compensation: Commensurate with Wakefield Administrators Association (WAA) contract $108,269.00 - $124,368.00
