Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is currently recruiting for the position of Sr. Electro-Optical Systems Engineer. The Electro-Optical Systems Engineer's primary responsibility will be to design, integrate and characterize electro-optical test systems in support of SBIR Market segments (Infrared Scene Projectors, Standard Commercial Products, and Integrated Electro-Optical Test Systems).
Requirements/Experience:Required:
- BS/BA in Physics, Engineering, or other relevant technical degree
- Minimum 5 years' experience in electro-optics, infrared systems, or related field. An advanced degree may count towards years of experience.
- Excellent trouble-shooting capability and analytical skills
- Ability to set priorities and organize incoming projects
- Ability to communicate system requirements, testing needs, debug information, and design concepts with other engineering disciplines.
- Sr. Systems Engineer: Experience with aspects of systems engineering including trade studies, requirements flowdown, failure analysis, product life cycle support, documentation (e.g., test plans, test procedures, and reports), and process improvement
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, and a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience using electrical and optical measuring instruments: multimeters, oscilloscopes, microscopes, cameras, etc.
- Willingness to communicate with vendors and customer teams and demonstrate system performance through leading (Sr. Systems Engineer) or supporting (Systems Engineer) factory and site acceptance testing.
- Ability to travel to customer facilities (5 -- 15%)
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or other relevant technical degree
- Experience and/or expertise with EO/IR technology, imaging, radiometry, and calibration techniques.
- Proficiency with C-based (C, C++, C#) and python programming languages
- Proficiency with image data analysis software
- Experience with optical design and simulation (Zemax or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of MEMS and/or photolithography fabrication processes and packaging of integrated circuits (ICs)
- Experience with electronics, including ICs, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and high-throughput data transfer
Responsibilities: - Performs system performance modeling, trade studies, and requirements flow down analysis to support product development
- Works with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering staff to guide both new product development and sustaining efforts for standard product
- Works with the technical team to optimize process flow and documentation
- Develops test plans and procedures based on system requirements
- Collects and analyzes test data, and calibrates for optimal system performance
- Interacts directly with customers during factory acceptance testing and travels to customer facilities to lead on-site system installation, integration and training
- Performs routine troubleshooting, test and calibration in support of ongoing programs, as well as special-purpose programs
- Performs analysis to support sales department in efforts to identify possible solutions to potential customers' applications
