Full Job Description
Electrical Safety Specialist - Power Generation Make Safety Real Where It Matters Most Oglethorpe Power is looking for an experienced Safety Specialist to be a visible, trusted safety partner across our generating fleet. This is not a desk-only compliance role. You will spend meaningful time in the field-working alongside plant leaders, operations teams, maintenance teams, and contractors to strengthen safety performance, prevent incidents, and help ensure our people go home safely. If you bring deep electrical safety knowledge, power-generation experience, and the confidence to influence at every level of an organization, we would like to hear from you. What You'll Do • Serve as a day-to-day safety resource for assigned generating facilities and corporate operations across Georgia. • Partner with plant leadership and frontline teams to identify hazards, improve safety practices, and support compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and related standards. • Lead and support site assessments, compliance audits, peer reviews, outage reviews, risk reviews, and operational and maintenance reviews. • Help develop, improve, and implement practical safety programs, processes, and procedures. • Deliver and coordinate safety training that is relevant, engaging, and useful in real operating environments. • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to help prevent recurrence. • Stay current on evolving safety and regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable guidance for the field. What You Bring • Eight or more years of experience as a safety professional, including significant experience in power generation, electric utility operations, or a closely related high-hazard industrial environment. • A strong foundation in electrical safety, energy isolation and control, and arc-flash prevention. • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and other applicable safety and regulatory frameworks. • Familiarity with power plant equipment, systems, operations, and maintenance activities. • The ability to build credibility with everyone from frontline employees to plant and corporate leadership. • Strong investigation, problem-solving, communication, planning, and follow-through skills. • The ability to develop and deliver effective safety training. • A valid driver's license that meets insurance requirements. A bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience will be considered. Field Presence Across Georgia This position requires regular statewide travel-more than 50%-to support OPC facilities and teams throughout Georgia. We are seeking someone who is energized by being in the field, building relationships across locations, and making a tangible difference in day-to-day operations.
