Job Description

Who You'll Work With

In this position, you will be working directly with Hardware Engineering, ECAD, Mechanical/Thermal, and Contract manufacturing teams that are at the core of development and building our products. Your role is highly collaborative; you will serve as the technical bridge between our internal Hardware and Mechanical Engineering teams and our external Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners. By working closely with Engineering, Product Ops Managers and various cross-functional teams, you will ensure that our High Performance, High Layer Count PCA designs are successfully translated into high-volume production readiness through the NPI process.

What You'll Do

This hands-on, technical role focuses on New Product Introduction (NPI) for advanced SMT PCBs. As an Electrical NPI Engineer, you will act as the technical bridge between design engineering and manufacturing partners, ensuring design for manufacturability (DFM), reliability, and quality throughout the product lifecycle. You will oversee product designs, identify DFM improvements during early development, and support HWDE, SI, and CAD layout engineers. Key responsibilities include leveraging expertise in advanced manufacturing processes, high-layer-count PCB structures, and SMT assembly to drive continuous improvements in yield, scalability, and quality in the following areas:
  • Drive PCA designs, resolving DFM issues for SMT and system integration.
  • Optimize high-layer count PCB manufacturing and BGA assembly.
  • Lead process validation, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  • Manage NPI lifecycles from prototype to full production.
  • Manage ECOs and version control via PLM systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement in yield, cost, and quality.
  • Develop SMT/PCB assembly best practices per IPC standards.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with the supply chain for inventory efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: BS/MS in Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering with 5-7+ years of experience in NPI engineering, specifically in Advanced SMT and High-Layer-Count PCB assembly (30+ layers preferred). PCA Design/Layout experience is a plus.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong background in circuit debugging, troubleshooting, failure/root cause analysis, and 8D methodology. Comprehensive knowledge of Design for Excellence (DFx), including DFM, DFR, DFT, DFC, and DFQ.
  • Process & Lifecycle Management: Proficiency with PLM systems (e.g., Propel, Agile) to manage ECO/MCO/DEV/PCN processes. Experience managing product lifecycles from prototype to end-of-life, including BOM risk assessment, second sourcing, and component qualification.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to provide technical mentorship to manufacturing/debug teams and collaborate effectively across functions (e.g., Engineering, Marketing, TAC, and CM Partners). Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to drive continuous improvement in yield, cost, and quality.
