Electrical/Instrumentation Designer to join our team in our
Edmonton office. In this role you will be responsible for design, drafting and construction inspection services with an electrical focus and for a variety of public and private sector clients.
What you'll do:- Performing electrical design calculations and analyze electrical systems.
- Applying electrical engineering principles and techniques to provide power, controls and automation engineering and design services for a wide variety of industries and clients.
- Developing and review single line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, control panel layouts, conduit routing, heat tracing, motor power and control schematics, and field wiring.
- Developing plans and details for hazardous area classification, grounding, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
- Developing specifications for electrical equipment such as electrical switchgear, motor control centres, and electrical back-up systems.
- Applying industry codes, standards, and safe guards such as the CEC, IEC, NFPA and client company standards to designs at hand.
- Providing support for inspection of electrical and control systems.
- Cross-discipline coordination to ensure that the multi-discipline design intent is met.
- Supporting the project team in development of design, documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
- Working closely with the Electrical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools.
Does this sound like you?- An Electrical/Instrumentation Technology diploma or Engineering Design & Drafting diploma from an accredited technical college.
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory.
- 5+ years in design and CAD drafting of electrical projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Revit is an asset.
- Experience with ETAP, AGI 32, ElecDES, Navisworks & PanelsDES is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of the CEC, IEC, and NFPA.
- Comfortable in a field setting.
- Ability to work with others on large complex projects.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Comfortable working under and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Committed team player and the ability to work independently.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to travel within Alberta.
