Full Job Description
As an Electrical Technician in protection and control (P&C), you will be able to participate in the design of high-level diagrams, the development of the protection philosophy and contribute to large-scale electrical energy projects. You will evolve in a multidisciplinary environment and develop skills by collaborating with experienced professionals, particularly on substation projects, hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy projects with many clients across Canada. You will have the opportunity to take part in our hybrid work model that includes flexible work hours, including 2 days per week in our St. John's, NL, Saint John, NB, or Dartmouth, NS offices.
Job Responsibilities
• Design Protection & Control systems with 2D software (AutoCAD)
• Prepare project deliverables including detail drawings, electrical schematics, layouts, equipment sizing, etc.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians in the execution of technical tasks
• Prepare plans, drawings and calculations based on specifications provided
• Participate in the development of electrical Control and Protection systems, including single-line diagrams, logic diagrams, three-wire AC diagrams, protection and control diagrams, wiring drawings, device connection drawings, assembly plans, material lists and specifications for the manufacture and installation on site of Control and Protection panels
• Participate in the development of AC and DC power systems, including single-line diagrams, AC and DC load calculations, AC & DC distribution diagrams, connection drawings of chargers, batteries, inverter, etc.
• Participate in site surveys (substations and power stations)
• Coordinate with the engineering disciplines: apparatus, civil, mechanical and building in order to develop design solutions for optimized and advanced substation and power plant systems
• Ability to carry out site work sporadically when the opportunity arises (start-up or monitoring)
Qualifications
• College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technologies or equivalent related discipline
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Basic knowledge of the MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies is an asset
• Work experience in the design of electrical systems is an asset
• Experience in detailed P&C design with major and/or local utilities in Canada, an asset
• Experience using AutoCAD software is an asset
