Full Job Description
Responsibilities:

  • Balance both new product development and sustaining engineering priorities, supporting innovation while ensuring strong performance of released products.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and vendors) to define requirements, solve technical issues, release designs, and improve product reliability.
  • New product Development (Approx. 50%)
  • Participate in R&D efforts including feasibility studies, architecture decisions, design reviews, prototype builds, validation, and product release planning.
  • Translate product requirements into electrical system designs for instrumentation and flow measurement products.
  • Design across analog and digital circuitry, microcontrollers, communications interfaces, sensing, signal conditioning, and power systems.
  • Perform schematic capture and provide input for PCB/PCA design, including design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-test (DFT) considerations.
  • Develop and test breadboards, prototypes, and proof-of-concept circuits to validate designs and reduce technical risk.
  • Plan and execute electrical verification and validation testing, including hardware/firmware interaction, communications, and environmental performance.
  • Support regulatory and compliance efforts (EMC/CE, safety, certifications), including pre-compliance testing and design updates.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation such as BOMs, schematics, PCB files, drawings, test procedures, and design records.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for released products, including production builds, customer issues, field returns, and service needs.
  • Troubleshoot issues across component, circuit, PCA, product, and system levels, including hardware, firmware, and software interactions.
  • Investigate production test failures, customer returns, and reliability issues using structured root-cause and corrective action methods.
  • Evaluate alternative components, obsolescence (EOL), supply chain challenges, and cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining product performance and compliance.
  • Design, maintain, and improve PCA test fixtures, production test methods, troubleshooting guides, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Implement engineering changes (ECO/ECN), including updates to schematics, PCB/PCA designs, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Coordinate product changes and releases with manufacturing and production team.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and vendors to resolve issues, improve yield, reduce rework, and sustain long-term product availability.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of electrical engineering experience in instrumentation, industrial electronics, or similar product environments.
  • Experience with schematic capture and support of PCB/PCA design, including layout reviews and production documentation.
  • Working knowledge of microcontrollers, analog and digital circuits, communications interfaces, sensing, and signal conditioning.
  • Ability to support both new product development and sustaining engineering, including prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and engineering changes.
  • Experience with PCA test fixtures, production testing, and failure analysis.
  • Hands-on skills including soldering, rework, breadboarding, and lab equipment use.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills at the component level with clear documentation of root cause and corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with BOMs, drawings, ECO/ECN processes, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
