Base Salary Rate: $90,614 - $106,605

About This Role

Kidde's Residential Fire Detection organization is searching for an Electrical Engineer to join the design team located in Bradenton, FL. In this position, you will have responsibility for new projects and sustaining projects that challenge you on all levels, including low cost and low power design, analog circuit design and signal integrity of a variety of sensors, as well as integration of wireless daughter boards. Key Responsibilities

  • Design discrete circuits and verify them through simulation, bench testing and detailed characterization to ensure operation across a range of environmental conditions


  • Utilize various sensing technologies to detect carbon monoxide, smoke, indoor air quality and more - ensuring they are consistently and reliably produced within the statistical product requirements maintaining 100% quality and certification adherence.


  • Participate with the team in electrical system design, prototyping, and transitioning to production taking ownership of major portions of the project or the entire project.


  • Perform alternate component analysis, considering the circuit function in all modes of operation.


  • Design electronics to meet the functional specifications within cost targets, oversee prototyping and testing for compliance and robustness.


  • Perform analysis and simulation on circuit designs prior to assembly to ensure design goals will be met i.e. meet or exceed all design requirements.


  • Provide insights into possible design opportunities to optimize costs.


  • Identify and implement sustaining activities for Alarm and Detectors maintaining and improving an existing product's life.


  • Perform on dual sourcing component approval and validation process


  • Work along with manufacturing and supply chain supporting EOL - End of Life components


  • Perform root cause analysis identifying why failures or performance issues are occurring in the field and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.


  • Create or update FMEAs


  • Able to take direction from senior engineers while also taking initiative on design activities to drive projects forward and anticipate next steps.


  • Professionally communicate with parties within and outside of the Engineering department serving as a strong representative for our team and company.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree


  • 3+ years of experience in design and development skills in mixed signal, digital, and analog circuits.


  • 3+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting analog circuits, including EMC, ESD, and Transient testing


  • OR


  • Master's Degree


  • 1+ years of experience in design and development skills in mixed signal, digital, and analog circuits.


  • 1+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting analog circuits, including EMC, ESD, and Transient testing


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an ABET accredited college or university.


  • Power supply design experience for AC and DC inputs.


  • Experience in EMC / EMI troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.


  • Experience designing and analyzing sensing systems comprised of optical components (LEDS, Photodiodes) and/or light scattering inference methods


  • Ability to design low power products capable of achieving very long life with non-replaceable batteries.


  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to apply them to electrical system design and verification


  • Experience with MATLAB script writing for automation of data analysis and reporting


  • Skillfully and physically capable of using electrical engineering tools for debugging circuits and modifying surface mount assemblies.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
