About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team on a FIFO rotation supporting a major mining project. This position plays a key role in the successful delivery of electrical engineering activities throughout construction, commissioning, and project execution. Working as part of an integrated project team, the Electrical Engineer will provide technical support for the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems while working closely with construction personnel, operations teams, vendors, and contractors. The successful candidate will help resolve technical issues in the field, verify work meets design intent, and contribute to the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of project objectives. This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys working in a site environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and applying practical engineering solutions to support complex mining and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day electrical engineering support to site construction and project teams.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to support field execution.
  • Monitor electrical installation activities to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, applicable standards, and project quality expectations.
  • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment including substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, cable systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to resolve technical queries and support efficient project delivery.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify completed work and identify deficiencies requiring corrective action.
  • Assist with field design changes, redline markups, and preparation of as-built documentation.
  • Participate in commissioning activities, equipment inspections, functional testing, and system handovers.
  • Investigate electrical issues encountered during construction and commissioning and recommend practical engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to work planning, construction sequencing, and coordination with other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and incident investigations as required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, inspection reports, and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, constructability, and project performance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • EIT or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in the applicable jurisdiction is considered an asset.
  • 3-10 years of electrical engineering experience in mining, industrial, energy, or heavy construction environments.
  • Experience supporting electrical construction, field engineering, or commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, cable schedules, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical codes, industry standards, and safe work practices.
  • Experience using engineering and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, ETAP, or similar applications is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Previous FIFO or remote project experience is considered an asset.
