Your Opportunity

Stantec's Energy team in western Canada is currently offering exciting opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. The Stations Electrical Design team is looking to fill the role of an Electrical Engineer-in-Training. Reporting to the Electrical Team Lead, the Electrical EIT will work under the supervision of a Senior Engineer to develop skills and gain experience in performing engineering design.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
  • Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
  • Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
  • Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
  • Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
  • Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
  • Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Preliminary knowledge of the CEC, and industry standards such as IEEE, and CSA.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and highly organized with strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.
  • 0-6 years of relevant experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).

Office Location and Schedule
  • Typical office environment working with computers.
  • Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
  • Hybrid work model to work from home is possible.
  • Location - Vancouver / Yukon / Edmonton / Calgary.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
