About the role

D-Wave is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer I to join our engineering team and support the development, assembly, testing, and maintenance of the world's first commercial quantum computers.

In this hands-on role, you will contribute to the development and testing of our quantum processor control and readout electronics while supporting electrical, software, and cryogenic systems in both laboratory and field environments. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will help build, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain complex systems that enable our quantum computing technology.

What you'll do

  • Assemble, test, upgrade, and maintain electrical and electronic assemblies ranging from programmable power supplies to custom FPGA-based high-speed electronics
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, electronics, software, and cryogenic system issues with guidance from senior team members as needed
  • Support system installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities in both laboratory and field environments
  • Perform preventative maintenance and provide day-to-day engineering lab support
  • Assist with installing, configuring, and maintaining software on control servers
  • Execute engineering and production system tests and contribute to improving testing procedures
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and test records
  • Collaborate with Engineering Change Control and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process and system improvements

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • 2+ years experience working in an engineering or laboratory environment
  • Working knowledge of scripting or programming languages such as Python or C/C++
  • Basic understanding of FPGA concepts and VHDL or Verilog
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and electromechanical drawings and schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Demonstrated initiative in improving processes or solving technical problems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Willingness to participate in field work and an on-call support rotation

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional travel (approximately 10%) to customer sites across North America and Europe, including short-term work assignments in the United States
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, able to obtain and maintain a valid passport, and eligible for any required U.S. work authorization for temporary business travel or assignments
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances as needed, including working on-site with highly secure and sensitive customers and completing background checks if required

Bonus:

  • Current or eligible registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC

The base pay range for this role is:

89,000 - 122,000 CAD per year (Burnaby)
