  • Assess existing systems for performance and recommend cost-effective replacements.

Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

Working with internal and external stakeholders, this position provides engineering services backed by expertise in relevant Fire and Building Codes.

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Undertake design, design review, and managing projects including site reviews and assessing the fire protection systems in a building and apply Canadian provincial and national Building and Fire Codes, CAN/ULC, NFPA standards, and best practice guidelines related to Fire Protection Systems.
  • Project manage system installations in close coordination with contractors and other cross-functional teams. Attend construction and pre-construction site meetings.
  • Apply and provide interpretations of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and ULC/NFPA standards to internal and external clients.
  • Take leadership in resolving compliance matters and attending meetings with stakeholders and with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Provide fire alarm design drawings, and specifications. Develop Alternative Solutions and prepare project reports with cost estimates.
  • Assess performance of existing fire alarm selecting proper and cost-effective solutions for replacement using applicable Codes and standards.
  • Support internal and external clients by advising on application of Codes and standards.
  • Conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions and review construction, review shop drawings, attend tests, and commissioning of the systems.
  • Assist Finance team with project billing.
  • Represent LRI on various technical committees, both provincial and national as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering. P. Eng. title is a must.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Fire Alarm and Protection Systems engineering and project management with expertise in fire alarm systems. Candidates with more experience will be considered for senior level positions.
  • Experience working on medium to large scale projects including high-rise mix use, commercial, industrial, infrastructure, multiple towers, and healthcare buildings.
  • Excellent knowledge of OBC, OFC, ULC and NFPA standards.
  • Experience with site project management, payment certification, preparation of site review notes, contract change notice/orders, site instructions, and CCDC contract documents.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, presentation, stakeholder management, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades, and industry authorities.
  • Versatile and able to manage varying workloads and competing priorities.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with project team members and clients.
