Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada in Markham is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to join our team, where you'll play a major role in the electrical design for projects that shape how communities live, move, and thrive-from transit and civic buildings to commercial, education and water/wastewater facilities. This position is for a newly created position.

Your Role

As an electrical engineer on our Buildings + Places team, you will:
  • Develop various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents
  • Prepare electrical drawings and specification
  • Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecomm., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
  • Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
  • Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data
  • Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and standards
  • Integrate advanced tools and standards-leverage SKM, ETAP, Revit, AutoCAD, and ensure designs meet OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, LEED, Net Zero guidelines
  • Collaborate with other disciplines architecture, mechanical, structural, urban design, sustainability to deliver integrated solutions
  • Provide client and construction support-serve as technical advisor, review submittals, respond to RFIs, support commissioning, and ensure timely delivery
  • Respond to contractors technical queries and attending site meetings as well as performing site reviews complete with reports
  • Review shop drawing to ensure their compliance with the project requirement
  • Issue SI and CCN to the construction team to mitigate technical issues
  • Review Contractor`s change quotation and progress billing reports


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess no less than:
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering + four (4) years of experience design of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, communication and security
  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, in good standing


Preferred Requirements:
  • Prefer an individual with 10+ years of experience design
  • Proficiency in system studies-short circuit, arc flash, protective device coordination using SKM or ETAP
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards
  • Demonstrated experience with power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and building systems
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Working knowledge of Revit is a bonus
