Full Job Description
We are seeking junior and mid-level candidates with a strong foundation in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field to bridge the gap between software development and hardware systems. This role involves designing and implementing solutions that integrate hardware components, including drones, electro-optical sensors, lasers, lidar, comms, and FPGAs, with advanced software applications.

A successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Work with a team of skilled professionals to design, build, and test electro-optic systems
  • Apply expertise in embedded systems and real-time control to develop novel sensing platforms and edge devices
  • Support system design and implementation from initial concept through production
  • Write efficient, reliable code to interface with hardware and optimize system performance
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop prototype systems and bring concepts to production readiness
  • Contribute to projects involving robotics, computer vision, motion control, and real-time data acquisition.

This is a full-time, exempt, non-supervisory position based in our Niwot, CO office.

Experiences and Background We Look For (Required Skills):
  • B.S. or higher in Robotics, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of experience. Significant direct production engineering experience may substitute for education
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or embedded system languages
  • Comfortable with hands-on field testing of hardware and software systems and working with interdisciplinary teams
  • Hands-on experience with robotic sensors (e.g., LIDARs, cameras, IMUs) and platforms
  • Organization and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven capability to develop creative solutions to complex technical problem
  • Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbally
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Nice to Have (Preferred Skills):
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN
  • A background in hardware debugging tools and methodologies
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire for continuous learning

The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $110,000; however, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
