Summary:The Design Engineer at Miller Industries primarily creates and maintains electrical system designs which control lights and control hydraulically or pneumatically actuated wrecker systems. They follow smaller-scope projects from design to implementation.
Responsibilities:• Develops products to meet criteria specified by the customer while also balancing manufacturing capability and cost requirements
• Creates detail schematic and drawing packages for electrical systems and harnesses
• Works within a Project Team organizational structure to accomplish project goals
• Logs time spent on projects
• Evaluates systems and products by designing and conducting research programs
• Makes design changes using the Windchill Engineering Change Process
• Collaborates with all affected parties to make design changes (Sales, Accounting, Customer Service, Operations, Vendors or Customers)
• Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and system capabilities, confirming fabrication, assembly and installation processes
• Uses Engineering design software like Creo, Windchill, Microsoft Office and others
• Troubleshoots electrical systems
Responsibilities may include:• Performing and documenting electrical analysis of designs
• Instrumenting, performing, and reporting on EMC testing
• Occasional travel, foreign or domestic
Qualifications:• Bachelors' degree in Engineering or 10+ years of relevant experience in the field
• 2+ years experience designing/analyzing Miller products or similar
• Experience with PTC Creo design software and Windchill
• Good understanding of Miller design practices, engineering systems and workflows.
• Basic understanding of Miller Products and good understanding of at least one main product family (Small or Large Wreckers, Carriers)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to self-direct in fast-paced environment but still complete tasks and projects
