Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Understanding and ability to apply electrical, controls, and instrumentation (EC&I) engineering expertise to design and build equipment particularly machine / robotic equipment systems including first-of-a-kind (FOAK)
  • Provide a high level of technical expertise in one or more specific areas; including, controls software, control instrumentation, and assessment/design/specification of equipment and components
  • Able to perform the role of Technical Team Lead or Subject Matter Expert to develop conceptual designs and turn them into detailed design packages following a structured design process
  • Prepare design packages which may include but not limited to, fabrication drawings, P&ID, design calculations (AC/DC power supply sizing, UPS sizing, etc ), general arrangement diagrams, technical specifications (power supplies, UPS', PLCs, HMI computers, servo drives, motors, valves, pumps, instrumentation, cabling), Bill of Materials, FMEA etc.
  • Working knowledge of drafting software (i.e EPlan, AutoCAD electrical, etc.) is considered essential
  • Lead interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation, and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. Working with equipment suppliers can include activities such as site visits to review system compliance to fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of supplier prepared fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of assembly procedures including leak testing, etc.
  • Lead interface with other design disciplines such as mechanical design and software to provide a complete design solution
  • Work independently and as part of engineering teams to contribute and prepare design plans, technical evaluations, technical procedures, test plans, data analysis, report preparation and report reviews.
  • Assist in procurement engineering activities such as preparing procurement plans, incoming inspections, scope of work, reviewing terms and identifying appropriate risks.
  • Provide troubleshooting support during equipment build and testing evolutions from assembly, functional testing, and factory acceptance testing through commissioning.
  • Support project management and other assigned duties on as need basis.
  • Assist in developing proposals for internal and external customers.
  • Liaise with customers, staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors as appropriate
  • Act as technical support for Section Managers, Senior Director and others in the department.
  • Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts, including cost estimates, schedule, and resources required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the technical processes and support change derived from lessons learned
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Occasional travel to Bruce Power, OPG, or other client sites may be required including outage field support.
  • Other duties as required


What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • At least 4 years of relevant equipment controls system design experience for electromechanical automated equipment is required
  • Experience in being the design lead of electromechanical design/build projects
  • Extensive knowledge of drafting software (i.e. EPlan, AutoCAD electrical, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of control system design and equipment including control computer, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), etc.
  • PLC Programming knowledge in various vendor technologies (Siemens, Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley, etc.)
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design techniques, and conventional electrical codes and standards
  • Experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance Standards such as CSA N299 and CSA N290.14 is considered an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively on a technical level.
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status.
  • Innovative, enthusiastic, and ready to be part of our dynamic team. Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plants (Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power or other) systems & processes.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain nuclear site security clearance.


This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
