Your Impact

This role sits at the intersection of engineering and supply chain, owning component strategy from design through full product lifecycle. You will directly influence product cost, supply resilience, and scalability by driving component selection, supplier strategy, and lifecycle risk management across Axon's product portfolio.

What You'll Do

Location: Scottsdale, Arizona (HQ)
Reports to: Director of Category Management

  • Partner with design engineering teams early in the NPI development process to influence component selection by leveraging your industry experience.
  • Establish strong relationships with manufacturers and their associated representatives in the electronics industry to understand product roadmaps and availability to support current and future product development.
  • Work with the sourcing team to develop and ramp component sources for new products and support the NPI team's efforts to ensure components are purchased in a timely manner for engineering development builds.
  • Leverage your technical expertise and industry knowledge to select key strategic components to support product scalability for 5+ year lifecycles.
  • Assist the respective Category Managers and cross-functional category teams in developing and executing multidimensional commodity strategies that support the NPI work stream with an emphasis on cost optimization, time to market, technology, quality, supply continuity, supply chain consolidation, service and risk mitigation.
  • Identify and manage the implementation of cost reduction opportunities on new and existing products in collaboration with the category management and continuous engineering teams.
  • Identify risks in our current supply chain and work together with the Category Managers and Continuous Engineering team to qualify additional sources of supply for critical components on our BOM's.
  • Manage all active BOMs in the electronic component database tool.
  • Own the development and maintenance of the EOL Maintenance Process based on incoming manufacturer Product Change Notices (PCN's).
  • Provide formal reports on obsolescence and environmental solutions for electronic components including DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages) Management, PCN's, and EOL's.
  • Provide input to new designs to improve product reliability and longevity.
  • Provide support to the team regarding cost, availability, and technical advantages of various component choices and manufacturer choices.
  • Ensure all existing and new internal part numbers, datasheets and descriptions are correct in our databases.
  • Generate internal standards relating to component selection.
  • Liaise with external agencies regarding reliability and component issues.


What You Bring
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in component engineering or related roles.
  • Work experience in a new product introduction (NPI) sourcing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate cross functionally with groups such as Engineering, Quality, Global Supply Chain, Operations and Contract Manufacturers to resolve issues pertaining to component selection and use.
  • Complete understanding/working knowledge of engineering documentation (i.e., schematics, component data sheets, Gerber files, etc.) and standard document control practices (ECRs, ECOs, deviations, etc.)
  • Ability to work on multiple cross functional projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive proper rigor in the supplier selection process.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage rapid changes typical during the NPI development process.
  • Experience with Arena Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or equivalent and quality management system (QMS) required.
  • Experience with schematic tools like Cadence\Altium\Siemens is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic database management tools like Silicon Expert, Z2Data, or IHS Markit preferred.
  • Experience with MS Dynamics 365 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System preferred.
  • Experience with Jira project and issue tracking preferred.
  • Experience with Quip, SharePoint and other collaboration tools preferred.
  • Excellent communicator, ability to lead and influence change in the face of complexity and ambiguity.
  • Analytical, fact based with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in managing and understanding cross-cultural business practices.
  • Experience in electronic and mechanical component analysis and selection.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and design environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and stay up to date on the latest technologies.
  • Familiarity with conflict mineral reporting and other compliance/EHS related tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Very organized and high attention to detail.
  • Able to work under high pressure and deliver results.
  • Located or willing to relocate to Scottsdale, AZ.
  • Ability to influence, create win/win situations, and produce results.
  • Previous design experience, schematic capture and layout.
