POSITION TITLE: Final Assembly Electrical Lead HandLOCATION: North Bay, OntarioSALARY: $39.13 to $43.85 per hourPurpose of RoleAdvocating on behalf of the company and cooperatively supporting all company policies, procedures, initiatives, and direction, The Lead Hand is responsible for a) assisting the Production Supervisor with the execution of specific administrative and Supervisory tasks, b) providing "Second in Command" back-up during absence of the Supervisor, and c) for providing direct labor capacity within the department of their discipline when not executing the duties and responsibilities of a) or b) above.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist the Plant Manager and/or Production Supervisor;
- Monitor work center priorities, organize parts if required, and assign work orders to workers based upon priority, environment, and skill set.
- Ensure "work order notes" are applied to any work orders that cannot be completed.
- Analyze Current Orders Report to uncover "stagnates" and move same to next work center.
- Monitor work ethic, performance and productivity of workers, and report any anomalies found to Supervisor.
- Coach, train and mentor as required to enhance skillset, quality, efficiencies and utilization.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering as required to communicate details of non-conformances found during the shift, and to help formulate corrective action taken.
- Collaborate with Engineering to identify and rectify DVLP build issues.
- Assist Supervisor with the preparation of performance reviews, providing input as to worker competence, performance and potential.
- Leading by example, ensure a safe working culture is evident within all, by personally adhering to all policies and procedures, ensuring co-workers adhere to all company policies and procedures without exception, formally identifying unsafe conditions, and assisting Shift Supervisor with execution of permanent corrective action to correct any unsafe conditions found.
- Ensure all equipment and tools are in safe and functional operating condition. Recommend replacement of same if unsafe and nonfunctional.
- Ensure employees are keeping their Crane and Forklift Logs up to date and perform practical evaluation once training has been completed.
- Ensure apprentices are meeting the expectations of apprenticeship training standards and sign off when each competency is met.
- Calibrate test equipment and measuring devices and document results of same.
- Provide "Second in Command" back-up during absence of the Supervisor. In addition to above:
- Take all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of all workers and contractors working within the facility.
- Arrange for the immediate first aid of any injured worker, ensuring transport to hospital and Ministry of Labor notification where applicable.
- Investigate any accident or injury and prepare incident report detailing same.
- Ensure workers are always fully utilized, working productively and efficiently. Document any issues found and communicate same to Supervisor.
- Provide direct labor capacity within the work center of your discipline:
- When Shift Supervisor is present, contribute towards direct labor within the department of your discipline. (i.e. A Welder will weld, a Machinist will machine, a Mechanic will assemble, etc.)
QualificationsEducation- Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
- Diploma or Degree in related discipline is an asset
- Skilled Trade Certificate of Qualification. 442a preferred, 309a accepted.
Experience- Five (5) + years' experience working as a Skilled Trades within a metal fabrication or heavy equipment manufacturing environment
- One to Two (1-2) years Leadership experience is an asset
- Previous experience promoting a safe work culture, communicating goals, and engaging and motivating individuals is an asset
- Computer literate (MS Office, AX Dynamics, and other application specific software)
