About the Role

ELB Learning is seeking an eLearning Development Manager to lead a team of developers building custom, interactive learning experiences. This role requires deep technical expertise in front-end development along with a strong grasp of AI-assisted development practices that increase team output and code quality. The ideal candidate is both a hands-on technical expert and an effective people leader.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and mentor a team of eLearning developers, overseeing project assignments, workload, and quality of output.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex builds involving HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including custom interactions, responsive design, and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Guide development in Storyline and other authoring tools as needed, ensuring builds meet technical standards and best practices.
  • Champion the use of AI coding tools and workflows to increase development speed, consistency, and code quality across the team.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, QA processes, and best practices for custom development work.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues escalated from the development team.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Design, UI/UX, and Project Management to ensure technical feasibility and timeline alignment.
  • Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and AI-assisted development platforms to keep the team's practices current.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and skill development for developers on the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on front-end development experience; portfolio or work samples demonstrating HTML/CSS/JS expertise and visual design sensibility.
  • Formal education in a related field is a plus but not required - we're prioritizing demonstrated skill and experience.
  • 2+ years in a development management or team lead role, ideally within eLearning or a related digital production environment.
  • Expert-level proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Keen eye for visual design and UI polish.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to increase development speed and output.
  • Strong understanding of eLearning development standards, including responsive design and accessibility.
  • Ability to review code and provide technical mentorship to developers at varying skill levels.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and modern development workflows.
  • Understanding of SCORM & xAPI (Tin Can).
Preferred
  • Background in custom eLearning development for enterprise or corporate clients.
  • Experience with coding frameworks such as Node/React or similar.
