DIRECT REPORTS: EHS Technician

FUNCTION: EHS

SUMMARY: The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs that protect the health and safety of our Tenneco employees and the environment while ensuring compliance with all Tenneco EHS policies and federal, state and local laws and regulations. They are committed to all aspects of creating and maintaining a safe workplace for our employees and our visitors. This role will be responsible to manage, implement, and oversee the EHS actions at both the El Paso, Texas and Exton, Pennsylvania Systems Protection (SP) sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and promotes the safety, environmental and health programs for the

El Paso and Exton facility to ensure compliance with governmental regulation and corporate policy.
  • Performs regular daily walks on the production floor to observe and correct EHS concerns or issues. Ensures all required postings are visible and current. Talk with employees and help support continuous safe behavior.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness and improve safe work practices. Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.
  • Updates and maintains the EHS database used by Tenneco to ensure all actions, activities, and data is accurate for both SP sites in the US.
  • Works with operations in aligning safety goals with Tenneco standards to include accident reduction, housekeeping and safety compliance. Implements standards for housekeeping, machine guarding, ergonomics, etc.
  • Perform required safety inspections and internal audits.
  • EHS Leader for all associated audits such as ISO14100 and ISO45001.
  • Advises site management on regulatory issues. Complete reports for regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA etc.) and Tenneco requirements.
  • Leads detailed incident investigations and root cause analysis. Works with the team to ensure corrective actions are complete in a timely and effective manner.
  • Trains and educates employees in the areas of safety and the environment.
  • Develop and oversee the safety teams.
  • Provides management and the safety teams with up-to-date information on new developments in the areas of safety, health, and the environment.
  • Maintains positive and proactive relationships with managers, employees, customers and regulatory agencies. Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance and mentoring to managers and employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
  • Perform work related tasks as required and assigned.


EDUCATION:
  • BS in Industrial Safety/Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety sciences, Environmental Science or relevant technical degree required.


EXPERIENCE:

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five (5) years working as EHS leader or manager in a production/manufacturing environment.


  • Proven successful record and experience in a leadership role achieving EHS goals and objectives.
  • Trained in advanced/complex problem-solving initiatives, utilizing techniques to determine true root cause, develop and validate corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned across the business unit.
  • Able to adapt, demonstrate, and promote the Tenneco mindset
  • Committed to a teamwork approach.
  • Knowledge of Environmental and Health Safety Systems such as ISO14001 and ISO45001
  • Excellent analytical, judgement, and decision-making skills with the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to make strong recommendations.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization. Ability to have difficult conversations with others to drive safety and to correct unwanted safety behaviors.
