EHS Manager

Stamford, CT

This position is a key leadership and an important member of the Plant operations team as well as a resource and support team member of the Corporation's EHS team. Responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental policies, procedures and operations at the manufacturing plant. Planning of the EHS improvement plan in collaboration and conformance with Spartech's policies. Position is responsible for executing training systems across all plant functional areas. Ensures the plant is in full compliance with all corporate, federal, state, and local Safety, Health and Environmental laws and regulations.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Key member of the team that drives Safety, Compliance and Process improvement throughout the Stamford facility.
  • Accountable for compliance with all applicable regulatory, plant and corporate EHS and related policies and procedures. Develops and maintains safety systems, policies, and procedures for the Stamford site.
  • Key support for Emergency Response functions, roles and responsibilities in accordance with site emergency response plan (PSM - start-up, shut-down procedures, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other functional departments to enhance employee engagement to reduce at-risk behaviors.
  • Manage the engagement to improve the KPI's related to safety improvement.
  • Perform risk assessment on operations and work with employees on risk reduction.
  • Lead RCCA's on near-misses and action items arising from JSO's.
  • Maintain all required documentation internally and external reporting on time.
  • Responsible / accountable to ensure equipment and facilities are installed and maintained in compliance with all applicable regulatory, site and corporate requirements.
  • Responsible / accountable to ensure site project activity is completed in compliance with all applicable regulatory, site and corporate requirements.
  • Ensures that all EHS reporting is completed timely and accurately. This includes required government, agency and other reporting.
  • Ensure that programs exist and are followed for all necessary employee monitoring and testing requirements are performed appropriately. Ensure compliance to IH - hearing tests, air sampling, etc.
  • Collaborate with Operations Management to define goals, objectives, and projects related to yield improvement, labor optimization, conversion cost reduction, product quality and compliance.
  • Manage projects related to EHS and Compliance for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Health, & Safety, Engineering or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the EHS field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to understand related compliance regulations and how they apply to the facility.
  • Strong knowledge of Title V and Water treatment systems.
  • Knowledge of PSM.
  • Ability to lead RCCA's.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as EHS standards, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and government regulations.
  • Ability to write operational and project reports, correspondence, and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization including internal and external associates (including project presentations in group settings).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

This position reports to the Stamford Plant Manager.
