Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Location: Billerica, MA

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for preventing workplace accidents and promoting environmental, health, and safety awareness across the organization. This role ensures employees and contractors follow applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, identifies and mitigates workplace hazards, and develops or improves policies and procedures that support a safer work environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Create, implement, and continuously improve workplace health and safety plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures through risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable legal guidelines.
  • Manage chemical and biological waste operations, including maintaining hazardous chemical inventory.
  • Chair the Safety Committee and lead safety orientation training, daily safety meetings, and preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Perform monthly safety audits and inspect equipment and workplace conditions to identify and address unsafe conditions.
  • File and maintain all USDA and CDC import permits as required.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations, maintain required inspection records, reports, and correspondence, and support injury and incident notification and case management.
  • Maintain a Grade II Wastewater Operator License and assist in overseeing the pH neutralization system.
  • Serve as Secondary Emergency Coordinator for emergency, spill, and first-aid response.
  • Monitor employee and contractor adherence to safety laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Plan, implement, manage, and maintain comprehensive environmental, safety, and health programs on premises or at project site locations.
  • Provide guidance to project management teams to confirm project sites meet industry, local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and maintain the Emergency Action Plan.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Life Science, Pharmaceutical, or an equivalent regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal workplace health and safety laws and requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience providing strong project management oversight, including managing daily safety meetings with multiple contractors.
  • Experience implementing and overseeing Lockout/Tagout programs.
  • Certification in risk management and/or health and safety management.
  • Experience managing chemical and biological waste operations in a regulated environment.
  • Grade II Wastewater Operator License or ability to maintain required licensure.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.

  • Onsite role requiring regular facility coverage.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and distinguish safety hazards.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recognize when safety conditions require improvement and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, especially when responding to accidents or incidents.
