EHS Manager - Akron

Huntsman is seeking an EHS Manager supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Akron, Ohio. This position will report to the Regional Senior EHS Manager.

Job Scope

The EHS Manager is responsible for leading and managing the site's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management systems in partnership with site leadership. This role ensures compliance with all corporate, federal, state, and local environmental, health, safety, process safety, and security requirements. The EHS Manager provides leadership and technical guidance to promote a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace while driving continuous improvement initiatives and supporting Huntsman's commitment to achieving Zero Harm.

In summary, as the EHS Manager, you will:
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and corporate environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards, including OSHA, ACC Responsible Care, TSCA, DOT, and EPA requirements.
  • Advise site leadership and serve as the primary EHS resource for environmental, health, safety, process safety, and security matters.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly and annual reports related to environmental performance, waste management, emissions, personal safety, and process safety metrics.
  • Lead investigations of accidents, injuries, incidents, and hazards, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive site EHS improvement plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee site environmental compliance activities, including air, water, and waste management requirements.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the facility to assess compliance and promote safe work practices.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to support EHS performance improvements across the site.
  • Manage site EHS training programs, including employee orientation, contractor training, emergency response drills, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and safety programs.
  • Assist the Site Manager in establishing and maintaining site policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Site Leadership Team.
  • Serve as a change agent to strengthen and sustain a culture focused on achieving Zero Harm.
  • Lead and maintain the site's Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System.
  • Collaborate with site leadership, department managers, contractors, and employees to support EHS objectives.
  • Conduct audits and assessments to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Function as the Facility Security Officer and coordinate site security operations and requirements.
  • Support and participate in corporate and site EHS initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for direct reports and contracted resources supporting EHS activities.


Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Associate degree in a related field with 5+ years of relevant EHS experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience managing environmental, health, and safety programs in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and process safety regulations and compliance requirements.


Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and project management capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Internet, and email systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety management software such as KMS and Cority is preferred.
  • Broad understanding of environmental, health, safety, and process safety regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, and health requirements across multiple functions.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships with employees, leadership teams, contractors, regulators, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated coaching, mentoring, and change management capabilities.
  • Strong judgment, diplomacy, and professionalism when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in the chemical industry.
  • Experience with OSHA and environmental agency reporting requirements.
  • Experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Management of Change (MOC) programs.
  • Experience leading EHS management systems in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.


Working Environment
  • Manufacturing and chemical production environment.
  • Regular presence in plant operations areas is required.
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, chemicals, and manufacturing processes while following established safety procedures.
  • Requires interaction with employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • May require participation in emergency response activities, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Direct supervision of two employees and oversight of two contractors supporting EHS activities.
