EHS Manager

Build a better future as a EHS Manager in Richmond, CA
Compensation Range: $148,000 - $170,000
Possible Bonus: 10%

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for technically advising and leading EH&S practices and programs to protect the employees, customers and the environment, championing comprehensive oversight for safe, compliant operations for manufacturing facilities, offices, laboratories, and pilot projects, meeting government safety regulations and industry standards, inspecting and evaluating the equipment, environment and processes. Critical to this role is being the site leader as it relates to wastewater and shipping port operations.

Your responsibilities include
• All hands-on Environmental, Health and Safety activities
• Review and implementation of corporate EH&S programs, policies, procedures, training, and reporting
• Guiding management of hazards associated with process safety management, ensuring comprehensive program is maintained to integrate technologies, procedures, and management practices
• Developing and implementing environmental strategies in the workplace, auditing and analyzing environmental practices for sustainability (including workplace pollution control, waste management and recycling) for assigned location(s).
• Directing accident investigations, reviewing and reporting, and developing programs for improved safety performance.
• Providing employee safety training and communication programs, managing the site safety committee, contingency Planning, Emergency Response, and H&S evaluations / implementation
• Setting environmental and safety priorities and goals consistent with corporate objectives.
• Specifying EH&S guidelines and directives for internal governance and internal controls
• Acting on quantitative measurements and coordinates solutions, presentations, and detailed reporting on safety performance and continuous improvements
• Determining and implementing improvements that provide reliable, successful EH&S programs

Your experience includes
• 8 or more years as a "hands-on" EHS leader in a plant manufacturing or similar environment is required
• Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or other related field of study
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred
• Knowledge of food processing, packaging, GMP, mechanical engineering, vegetable oil and hydrogen plant operations is helpful
• Experience in leading and directing the work of others with strong team orientation, ability to influence, and collaboration with all levels of leadership
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal and communicative skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and ERP applications
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes and program implementation strategies.
• Demonstrated experience in compliance with environmental regulations specific to the San Francisco Bay Area and with the US Coast Guard is highly desirable
• Experience and judgment to perform a variety of complex tasks
• Skilled in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail
• Ability to coach and work directly with the local plant leadership team.
• Must be able to speak, read, write English fluently to perform the essential job functions.
• Ability to work in the USA without the need for current or future work visa sponsorship

Working Conditions

The job is performed indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings including office, manufacturing floor, and warehouse. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and smoke may occur. Protective safety clothing is required including appropriate clothing, shoes, gloves, hardhat, and safety glasses as needed. Activities include extended periods of walking, standing or sitting and work with measuring devices and other machinery.

Physical Requirements
Regular use of a variety of measuring tools, telephone, and e-mail for communication is essential. Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally is required. Ability to climb stairs and ladders is required for inspections of overhead areas. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines or measuring tools is required.
