Job Summary

Provide focused and episodic care for outpatient and inpatient Radiology patients. This includes care in the Radiology preparatory areas, intra-procedural monitoring and administration of sedation/analgesia, and post-procedural or diagnostic study recovery as well as provide patient/family education, for a variety of adult and pediatric patient populations. Respond to emergency care calls in all areas of Radiology. Maintain clinical competencies, assist with quality assurance activities, act as a role model, and assist in monitoring unit practices.

To provide comprehensive professional nursing (80%) and educational support (20%). Complete needs assessments to identify gaps, create and implement education and/or training to improve outcomes. Partner and collaborate with other clinical and educational teams to standardize patient care processes. Facilitate and maintain quality improvement / LEAN activities.

Responsibilities*
  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate new employee orientation.
  • Investigate, design, and implement competency-based orientation/evaluation.
  • Evaluate and modify orientation based on clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate the completion of unit-based mandatories/competencies and institutional regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct individualized and group learning programs for members of the nursing staff.
  • Identify on-going educational needs and facilitate in-services and staff development programs.
  • Participate in the development of procedures, protocols, and guidelines. Assist in the development and acquisition of unit resource materials.
  • Actively participate as a member of the UBC as well as in unit improvement efforts such as research, and CQI.
  • Provide information and promote attendance at continuing education (CE) programs and involvement in professional organization activities by unit staff. Encourage and coordinate abstract and poster creation for UMHS and national organizations.
  • Remain knowledgeable in relevant care standards and assist in the maintenance of nursing practice standards.
  • Provide consultation in clinical expertise to the nursing team and other departments.
  • Coordinate performance improvement program activities.
  • Facilitate support of clinical experts through the nursing framework.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • ACLS certification
  • At least five (5) years recent experience caring for patients requiring radiological exams and or procedures within MRI, CT, Cross-Sectional, Interventional Radiology or Nuclear Medicine, with a heavy emphasis on the role of nursing in contrast reactions, both iodinated and gadolinium specific, in addition to demonstrated expert clinical leadership abilities.
  • Candidate must be able to provide direct patient care to patients from pre-op prep to intra-procedural monitoring and administration of sedation/analgesia, to post-op recovery and patient/family education, for a variety of adult and pediatric patients, accommodating both the in-patient and out-patient populations, as well as responding to emergency care calls in all areas of Radiology to demonstrate the clinical nursing role.
  • Experience with teaching in a clinical setting
  • Leadership experience as a RN, to include, but not limited to the following roles: Charge Nurse, Preceptor, Unit-Based Committees, or Nursing Governance member.
  • Experience as a RN utilizing EMR, preferred candidate would have super-user status
  • Experience as a RN participating in continuous quality improvement processes/projects
  • Advanced computer skills, to include experience with google docs/forms/data analysis

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours/week

Shift/Days/Hours: Primarily Day Shift, 7am-5:30 pm (Four 10-hour shifts)

**Requires flexibility to meet the needs of the unit.

Staffing 80% and Education 20%

Primary staffing will be within all Diagnostic Radiology areas including Pavilion and future sites.

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
