Job Description

These positions provide statewide leadership for assigned CTE pathways, career clusters, and initiatives. Education Specialists play a key role in program continuous improvement, professional learning, partnership building, and student success. This work directly supports Utah students in gaining the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed for college, career, and workforce success.

Principal Duties

This position requires a strong understanding of Career and Technical Education programs, pathways, instructional practices, workforce alignment, and educational leadership. Duties include:
  • Providing leadership as a statewide expert in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Career and Technical Education programs and pathways.
  • Supporting districts and charter schools in developing and maintaining high-quality CTE programs that meet state and federal requirements.
  • Providing technical assistance, guidance, and consultation to CTE directors, administrators, counselors, and educators.
  • Planning, developing, promoting, and evaluating Career and Technical Education programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinating and supporting assigned career clusters, pathways, and statewide projects.
  • Developing and delivering professional learning opportunities for educators, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Presenting complex information and educational content to small and large groups.
  • Collaborating with business and industry partners, higher education institutions, workforce organizations, and professional associations.
  • Facilitating meetings, committees, advisory groups, and collaborative decision-making teams.
  • Supporting innovation and implementation of best practices that improve student outcomes and workforce readiness.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and utilizing program data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assisting with grant implementation, monitoring, reporting, and accountability requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, board rule, standards, and program requirements.
  • Demonstrating effective leadership, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Serving on committees and completing other duties as assigned.
  • Traveling throughout Utah and occasionally out-of-state for school visits, professional learning, meetings, conferences, and program support activities.

  • Experience planning and delivering professional learning for adult learners.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience building partnerships with education, business, industry, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience utilizing data to support program improvement and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education requirements, grants, accountability systems, or compliance processes.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a highly collaborative team environment.
