Athletic Trainer - High School Coverage (Full-Time, Day Shift)Shift Details
- Full-time, day shift position
- Monday through Friday (5x8-hour shifts)
- Potential for rare Saturday coverage
Primary Coverage Locations
- Primary placement at a local high school setting
- May be required to provide coverage at additional local high school sites as needed
Position Overview
- Works under the supervision of a physician to apply principles, methods, and procedures for managing athletic injuries
- Responsibilities include preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning of individuals who have suffered athletic injuries through the use of appropriate preventative and supportive devices
- Provides instruction to coaches, athletes, parents, and medical personnel in the area of care and prevention of athletic injuries
- Works within school systems and in a physician or hospital clinic setting to support patient care
- Provides coverage to sporting events as agreed upon by the health system contract and based upon the schedule prepared by the hiring organization
Game & Contest Coverage
- Provides coverage for home contests on a schedule determined by the hiring organization, the athletic trainer, and the athletic director
- Covers most varsity contests and selected non-varsity contests based on the needs of the school and risk level of the sport
- Coverage includes post-session contests as determined by the athletic director for both varsity and non-varsity sports
Practice Coverage
- Provides practice coverage as determined by the athletic trainer and athletic director for both varsity and non-varsity sports
Injury Prevention
- Provides for prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, and braces
- Assists in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury
- Conducts workshops for staff as needed covering injury prevention, CPR, injury recognition, treatment, and injury rehabilitation
Clinical Support
- Assists physical therapists or physicians in the flow of patient care
- Assists with keeping equipment in order, changing linen, and assisting with bracing and splinting
Program Outreach
- Markets the athletic training program within the school district and medical community through flyers, brochures, and media contacts
Required Qualifications
- NATABOC Certification
- BLS Certification
- Minimum 21 years of age or older (per NYS Regulations)
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer in a high school and/or physician practice setting
