The Test Development Editor strengthens the writing quality of content used in FINRA and client exams and continuing education (CE) programs. This individual is responsible for ensuring all exam and CE content uses appropriate style, grammar, and terminology. The editor maintains program style guidelines, reviews exam and CE content before publication, and works directly with Content Managers to clarify meaning. In addition, the editor proofreads and provides copy editing for supporting materials including content outlines, reports, and presentations as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Edit exam questions and CE content for style, grammar, clarity, and terminology.
- Edit content outlines, program-related communications, presentations, and similar supporting materials.
- Edit test-development documentation and technical reports.
- Work with internal staff and client representatives to meet project schedules.
- Maintain style guides documenting writing, formatting, and terminology standards for FINRA and/or client examinations.
- Work with Content Managers to train authors on style and usage standards.
- Serve as a resource to FINRA staff on editorial matters.
- Demonstration of FINRA’s values.
- Collaboration, both in-person and virtually, in furtherance of FINRA’s mission of investor protection and market integrity.
Other Responsibilities:
- Contribute to special projects as assigned by management
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or related field and at least two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly gain sufficient subject matter familiarity to successfully edit technical material.
- Familiarity with testing, financial, or securities industry desirable.
- Familiarity with Associated Press style desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency with software.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment, with defined in-person presence requirements. Infrequent travel (less than 10%).
