Full Job Description
The Office of Risk Management (ORM) is looking for an Economist/Senior Economist to work on analysis of economic and financial risks facing the Fund and its members to inform the assessment of the Fund's enterprise financial and related risks. The Office of Risk Management (ORM) has the lead in developing and supporting implementation of a strengthened ERM framework at the Fund. This includes fostering development of additional methodologies to identify, assess, analyze, and monitor risk, including new risk tools and techniques, and their use by Area, Functional, and Support departments; and producing reports on the Fund's risk profile at regular intervals. ORM is also tasked to highlight areas where additional risk analysis or mitigation efforts are needed, including through participation in the review process and on Fund committees, and in this regard complements risk management policies and practices in operational departments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to take on responsibilities on board documents including the annual risk report, other related board reports, as well as regular engagement with departments and to contribute to the Office's analytical work agenda, including on financial and non-financial risks facing the Fund, developing indicators to provide early warning of these risks. They would be expected to facilitate risk management practices across departments, collaborate well with other departments, and support them in identifying areas for risk assessment for their critical business processes, and policy papers. They will also facilitate departments' risk tolerance discussions, including other enterprise risks aspects of those departments; and liaise with them ahead of risk discussions at the Fund Risk Committee, as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to review policy and country documents on high-risk cases, and exercise ORM's "challenge" function to ensure that staff discussions of enterprise risks conform with established ERM policy and Fund standards of risk management and practices. Candidates are expected to contribute to ORM's outreach activities by preparing briefings, presentations, and other communications with key stakeholders in other departments.

The position in ORM will provide selected staff with a thorough understanding of all Fund operations and activities, as well as regular exposure to the senior staff across the Fund, management, and the Board. The flat organizational structure of ORM and the innovative nature of its work provide extensive opportunities for career development and the leadership of projects and workstreams.

Economists in ORM do not have permanent mission country assignments but would have the opportunity to participate in area departments' one-off missions if desired and when allowed by the work program.

Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards for fungible macroeconomists, the successful candidate should possess strong analytical, communication, technical, and writing skills; familiarity with Fund operations; good teamwork skills; and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, often under tight deadlines. The successful candidate should have an interest in learning about enterprise risk management and shaping the Fund's risk culture. In addition, experience in country work or country review work would be a strong advantage. Familiarity with risk management is not required. ORM provides on-the-job training and coaching and opportunities for external training if desired.

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their open-ended status. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
