Overview

This summary provides a listing of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are critical components of the position of Engineering Aircraft Configuration & Control Specialist.

General

This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position, responsible for Engineering Aircraft Configuration and Control support as part of the Technical Services department which includes fleet-specific structural and interior configuration projects, maintaining these specifications for fleet-specific components, providing overall structural, interior, and control technical support to Aircraft Maintenance and other departments as needed. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of FAR Part 121 and/or FAR Par 145 requirements and be able to focus on reviewing, deciphering, and referencing, CMM, MM, IPC, TSM, FIM, FRM, wiring diagrams, LOPA's, procedure manuals, SRM, service bulletins & letters, and airworthy directives. Good communication skills are required, and the successful candidate must be able to exhibit the values and culture of the company while working in a fast-paced/dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Engineering Aircraft Configuration and Control Specialist reports to the Director of Technical Services with the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and liaisons with aircraft and component manufacturers to obtain technical data and required approvals for engineering assignments;
  • Helps prepare technical data, procedures, reports, drawings, manuals, and other required publications;
  • Reviews Requests for Engineering Services, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and Service Letters, as it relate to Aircraft Configuration and control activities;
  • Helps obtain FAA approval for aircraft configuration/modification and repair as directed by management;
  • Maintain documentation for configuration management of instrumented aircraft systems.
  • Coordinates with the maintenance department, operations department, and outside organizations regarding equipment modifications and de-modifications to all aircraft.
  • Interprets drawings, technical data, and Title 14 CFRs as applicable to repairs and configuration changes/modifications;
  • Responds to requests for technical information and engineering data from the maintenance organization;
  • Coordinates Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) engineering and modification requests and other directives to create in-house Fleet Campaign Directives (FCDs).
  • Interfaces with operations and reliability team acting as liaisons to contract DER services;
  • Post changes to computerized or manual control records, release documents, and notify affected departments;
  • Track and maintain aircraft configuration management for all Type/Model/Series including the required drawings, schematics, technical notes, and other documentation required for configuration control, data archiving, and Airworthiness Clearances for all aircraft assets.
  • Responds to requests for technical information and engineering data from the maintenance organization;
  • Suggests improvements to aircraft systems, methods, and procedures. Participates in reliability improvement and cost reduction programs;
  • Obtains FAA approval for aircraft modification and repair as directed by the Director of Technical Services;
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technical Services or VP of Maintenance and Engineering;


Education, Qualification, and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Associate degree in Aerospace Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience required;
  • Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) rating preferred;
  • Must have at least Five (5) years working in an aircraft maintenance organization that maintains different types of large airplanes (having 10 or more passenger seats) as part of a Part 121 air carrier or Part 145 repair station;
  • Must have at least five (5) years of progressively responsible positions in manufacturing, airlines, and engineering with three years in powerplants, systems, or airframes and one or more years in a supervisory role;
  • Familiarity with OEM and manufacturers repair and overhaul manuals;
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in managing a team is preferred;
  • Demonstrates excellent management, communication skills, professionalism, and positive customer service attitude without compromising quality;
  • Ability to communicate effectively; in both oral and written communication;
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets the Company's insurance standards;
  • Pass a two (2) year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and criminal history records check (CHRC);
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
