Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a drinking water focused process engineer to join our team in the London, Waterloo, Windsor, Toronto, or Stoney Creek Ontario offices. These offices support projects throughout southwestern Ontario and work with brilliant specialists from across our North American operations.

Within this position, you can leverage the process engineering and municipal water treatment design knowledge gained through your education and early career. Under the guidance of our senior engineering staff, you will work on municipal drinking water treatment projects in a supporting capacity. At a high level your tasks may include the development of engineering and financial calculations, participating in the design of water treatment facilities, engineering calculations, technical reports, providing proposal support, and independent field work. The projects that may be assigned are broad, varied, and diverse in scope, and often require seamlessly working with a diverse project team.

We are looking for a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, who can quickly get up to speed and grow into the role. It is expected that you have obtained your professional engineering designation or have the ability to obtain within 12 months. Many of the challenges we tackle for our clients are complex and multi-faceted, requiring comprehensive analytical skills often gained through rigorous academic study. Although not a requirement, advanced degrees in engineering and business administration are highly desired.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec
  • Take a self-directed role and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines effectively; provide timely and concise feedback to supervisory staff.
  • Contribute to conceptual design basis reports, engineering assessments, data analysis and design calculations.
  • Prepare detailed technical analysis of existing or in support of the design of drinking water facilities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of construction specifications, tender documents, and applications for approvals to regulators on behalf of municipal clients.
  • Support the preparation of engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Maintain positive relationships with municipal clients, vendors, consultants, and regulators as needed always using a professional communication approach.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to support proposals, project development, or business development.
  • Inspect and review projects during construction, which may include monitoring conformance with contract documents, reviewing the progress of construction activities, and ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Assist the project manager or lead engineer in preparation of proposals and technical reports.
  • Assist project technical leads in managing project deliverables and schedule.
  • Ability to work in a flexible office environment, including working within the office setting, or working remote from home where required.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water engineering.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
  • Effectively communicates project issues with the contractor, project team and clients in the execution of engineering projects.
  • Strong presentation, technical, and soft communication skills. Experience working with municipal clients considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in engineering applications such as AutoCAD and Revit software packages are considered an asset.
  • Completion of an advanced degree related to drinking water treatment process engineering disciplines considered an asset.
  • Holds a valid drivers' license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 6 years of water engineering related work experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer desired.

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Our group operates under a hybrid work strategy with work expectations being a combination of work from home and in-office support, however, the successful applicant for this role will be expected to spend a majority of their work week working from the London, Waterloo, Windsor, Toronto or Stoney Creek Ontario office (3-4 days/week).
