Function

The AE2S Drinking Water Treatment Practice Leader will serve as the strategic technical leader who shapes how we deliver solutions, differentiates the practice in the market, and anticipates the evolving needs of the communities and clients AE2S serves. In summary, the practice leaders at AE2S focus on the Technologies, Trends, and Training for their respective practices.

In this role, you will champion technical excellence, guide the evolution of our service offerings, and drive innovation across our drinking water treatment portfolio. You will develop and execute a forward-thinking practice strategy-one that strengthens technical quality, enhances market position, and ensures we pursue and win the right work.

As our Drinking Water Treatment Practice Leader, your primary focus will be advancing what we deliver for our clients and how we deliver it. You will leverage market and trend intelligence to position the practice for sustained success, lead pursuit strategy with a focus on technical differentiation, and serve as a technical leader who inspires teams and clients alike.

The successful candidate will lead the growth of the Drinking Water Treatment Practice by collaborating with Operations Managers across eight states to hire and develop the appropriate staff to deliver successful projects and by partnering with Client Program Leaders to build the business development teams necessary to identify and develop lasting client relationships.

The AE2S Drinking Water Treatment Practice includes engineers and designers who plan, evaluate, design, and oversee construction of drinking water treatment projects. Our engineers and designers are experts in their field, continuously working to improve project delivery for AE2S clients in the areas of:
  • Drinking water treatment
  • Source water infrastructure design (surface water intakes and groundwater wells)
  • Treatment planning / facility planning
  • Drinking water regulations
  • Treatment residuals
  • Distribution system water quality
Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Organizes and motivates the Drinking Water Treatment team while actively supporting and advocating for Company mission, vision, and initiatives
  • Promotes the desired AE2S culture by leading through example
  • Draws out the best in employees within the Practice Leader's sphere of influence
  • Manages a healthy, constructive tension between project execution and internal priorities and recognizes when adjustment is required to maintain balance
  • Establishes high expectations and constructively leads the team in accomplishing the goals

Strategic Planning
  • Develops Practice Strategic Plans with specific goals and initiatives, and drives implementation in collaboration with the Practices Director
  • Coordinates with the Operations Mangers, Client Program Leaders, and other Practice Leaders to evaluate business plans associated with geographic growth opportunities and staffing resources
  • Analyzes global decisions for alignment to the AE2S strategic plan

Technical Innovation and Resources
  • Implements activities that drive knowledge creation and dissemination
  • Assesses the firm's technical competitive position relative to other firms and organizations to identify approaches that will improve the firm's market share
  • Develops new service offerings in alignment with client needs and expectations
  • Works with Operations Managers to identify technical resources needed to augment, mentor, and train staff on the pursuit and delivery of technical solutions
  • Manages and coordinates internal and external technical content, presentations, and professional society engagement

Trends
  • Identifies and clearly describes technical trends to key geographic business development staff
  • Evaluates and prioritizes trends relative to our client's needs
  • Develops strategies to implement prioritized trends to enhance service offerings

Business Development
  • Provides technical leadership to business development efforts and project pursuit teams
  • Supports key business development activities and project pursuits
  • Supports annual geographic market assessments and development of sales goals for the Practice
  • Manages and coordinates the Practice opportunity pipeline in Vantagepoint

Indicators of Success
  • Development and implementation of the Practice's strategic initiatives

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or directly related field
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, functional equivalent, or ability to obtain within six months
  • 8+ years of experience in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering professional environment
  • 2+ years of progressive management experience
  • Demonstrated track record of technical excellence
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, the public, and other employees
  • Proven ability to manage clients, win new clients, and retain clients
  • Ability to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business development

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear
  • May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload
  • May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town
